DVD Description

Casper the ghost was created in 1940 by Joe Orolio. This is the live-action/animated family feature film starring the friendly young spook. In it, greedy heiress Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty) inherits the haunted Whipstaff Manor and discovers that the house contains a treasure, which is closely guarded by three nasty ghosts. She invites ghost therapist Dr. James Harvey, and his daughter Kat, (Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci) to move into the eerie mansion and get rid of the supernatural creatures.
The nephew of the three spirits is Casper, a friendly but lonely ghost who becomes Kat's pal. Casper takes Kat to his father's secret lab where he once attempted to bring Casper back to life with a special machine. Carrigan eavesdrops on their conversation and decides to become a ghost herself, in the hope that she will get the booty more easily. Then she can use the machine to change back to a human. However, Carrigan doesn't realise that you can't flirt with the afterlife.

Family fun film
Review of Casper The Friendly Ghost by peppermint

Advantages: good effects and acting
Disadvantages: none

...Casper is a goof family film that will keep adults and kids entertained. Christina Ricci, star of the Addams Family, stars as the girl whose father is a ghost psychologist. Fed up of being sent from one home to anotehr to live, Kat persuades her father to make this new move the last, tho he doesn't count on the hosue being haunted by Casper, and his three disgusting uncles. The special effects are superb in creating the four ghosts, who steal the show in many moments. Christina and Bill Pullman are good in their roels, and the film goes along at a rapid pace, without dragging the film on unnecessarily. Whilst a few years old now, this film still looks bang up to date and would make a good family film to watch.... Read review

It's my party and I'll die if I want to
Review of Casper The Friendly Ghost by Belfastgirl

Advantages: Good clean fun, brilliant special effects.
Disadvantages: May scare the little ones.

...children would find the ghosts quite scary. The special effects in this movie are totally astounding, Casper could very well be real and in that house, they are that good. One part that I particularly liked was when Kat and Casper are going along all the secret passages in the house, reminded me a little of "The Goonies", one of my favourite movies as a child! Casper, encompasses everything that a good movie in my opinion should have - laughs, excitement, a little scary, a hint of romance and adventure. I’d recommend this to anyone!... Read review

Starship Troopers Re-Mastered Edition DVD
Review of Starship Troopers DVD by Writer

Advantages: Re-Mastered release. Extra footage, audio commentray, scene development, screen tests, excellent effects
Disadvantages: poor acting in places, predictable.

...An all new re-mastered edition of one of the last great action movies of the last century. Starship Troopers sees a bunch of teenage Beverly Hills 90210 wannabes go head to head with some of the nastiest creatures to grace the screen since Ridley Scot brought us the Alien back in 1979. Based on the Hugo Award winning novel of the same name by Robert Heinlein, and set in the not too distant future, we follow the adventures of Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien: Tarzan and the Lost Kingdom), and his fellow members of the Roughnecks as they fight against the alien menace of the Arachnids (or Bugs as they are deemed) and is part love triangle, part war movie and all action. Coming from the talented hands of Dutch director Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Basic Instinct) and Academy Award winning special effects artist Phil Tippet (The Empire Strikes Back... Read review
