I purchased casino royale a while ago now but when originally buying i was so excited as obviously this was the 'new bond' that had been talked about for months and also our first blonde bond!! I was never keen on peirce brosnan so was quite chuffed at the new choice of bond that had been chosen not to say the least that he's a much better peice of eye candy in my opinion!! a more modern bond with a look of the tough guy who actually looks like he has encountered danger rather than the miraculous bonds before who never seemed to have a scratch!!
So lets start with the cast and crew:
Director - Martin Campbell screenplay - Paul Haggis, Robert Wade and Neal Purvis Novelist - Ian Fleming Daniel Craig - Bond Eva Green - Vesper Lynd Judi dench - 'm' head of secret service Mads Mikkelsen - Le Chiffre Caterina Morino - Solange
The above are what i believe to be the main actors in this film - there are plenty of others who make small appearances but the film centres around these and i will just run through some details of each one and how they relate to the film.
Daniel Craig - obviously plays the part of bond so we will encounter him all the way through the film. Asd we know, he is the first
blond to have played a bond and the casino royale movie is based on the story of bond just receiving his 007 status and his first assignment from this. As i also mentione dhios character seems more 'real' somehow than other bonds before him as we see him get injured and actuallly fight as a real man would! He also doesn't tend to have as many gadgets like other bonds and tends to use his own skill and cunning to get what he wants. We actually also see him very injured at one point which is also different. I personally believe a great actor for the part and i believe he was well chosen.
Judi dench - plays the part of head of secret service under the name of 'm'. Plays the same role as in previous bond films and as ever is straight talking and also plays a good part. Knows exactly how to tell bond off.
Eva Green - Eva plays the part of the financial advisor for the secret service under the character name of Vesper Lynd. good looking girl you can see why she was chosen for the role of a bond girl. Somehow not as tough as others we have seen in the past either - maybe this is to tie in with the new bond? A good performance from her with a different side to her story......
Mads Mikkelsen - He plays the part of Le chiffre - the main opponent of bond and who the story of this assignment is based around - again a great choice of actor, especially for the 'bad guy' role!
Caterina Marino - Not really a big part but is playing the girlfriend of Le chiffre under the name of Solange, so worth a mention. She also has the famous scene that went out in the trailers of her on horseback riding down the beach so another bit of italian eye candy! Bond shares a moment with her as does most bonds with their opponents women!
now the movie in general: The film has lots of action and great actors that combine to make it an awesome movie - some people will probably prefer the other guys who have played bond but personally this bond is modern, sexy and is a real tough guy. No messing around, he will fight with fists and not need the array of gadgets to fight his opponents - he's muscley but, we do see him get hurt like any other 'real' person would if fighting and we also see the caring side of him to as he falls for the leading lady. The story is about him taking on his first assignment after become '007'. Obviously the film is a remake from the original in 1967 (which is more of a spoof) - perfect for those who haven't seen the original - maybe not so perfect for those who have but none the less still brilliant! (or maybe it is?)
Stunts: Lots of high class stunts were done that were well publicised before the release - the two most well known being the car chase and the stunts involving the scaffolding. The car chase cost thousands to make as they used quite a lot of expensive cars that were each written off until the scene was to of the perfect standard. The scaffolding stunts involved a free runner who has done quite a lot of programs that involve jumping from building to building without the aid of ropes or harnesses. The stunt free runners performed the same kind of thing but up on scaffolding during a chase scene. Very intense and edge of seat entertainment!
second disc - bonus features: The second bonus disc includes a few features that are pretty interesting. They are as follows:
Becoming bond: This is a interview feature mainly that speaks to the actor daniel craig on how 'become' bond by preparing himself for his role. He talks about how he felt he had to make sure he looks good as he was obviously doing scenes without his shirts off and wanted to 'fit' the part!
James Bond: for real: This is a feature that looks at how some of the stunts were done as the director and stunts co-ordinators wanted Daniel to perform as many of his own stunts as possible so that it looked more realistic. Quite interesting to see how they did and how much hard work goes in to this part of a film.
Bond girls are forever: This section looks at all the bond girls over the years and their stories - it has interviews with them and how they felt on being a bond girl
Chris cornell music video: What it says on the tin! the music video to the official song to the Casino royale movie.
Overall i would highly rate this film - obviously it depends on wether you like the idea of the blond bond and if you are a die hard bond fan who didn't like daniel craig becoming this role but, if you are not fussed by this i'm sure you'll love the new slicker, harder and sexier bond! The scenes are great, stunts brilliant and it's been shot in a variety os stunning locations! The dvd can be bought online in a variety of shops or in store but, the best priced i have found it is at www.play.com for £4.99 for single disc and £14.99 for collectors edition.

Good review. Agree with you about the quality of Casino Royale. Much more complicated and gritty than the usual fare. Daniel Craig is spot on. Bond and Vesper also drink a £100 St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe (Chateau Angelus) on the train which pleased me no end ! Zallin
