CARS
Running time: 1 hr 52 min
Disney-Pixar Cars is an entertaining family film the whole family can enjoy together. With a easy to follow plot and plenty of laughs along the way, racing-car fans and car obsessed little boys will love it.
The tale begins with rookie race car Lightening McQueen racing for the Piston Cup, which ends up as a tie and the race must be run again. On the way to the race in California, McQueen manages to fall out of his transporter and he ends up lost in a long forgotten desert town called Radiator Springs. ( His lorry falls asleep while driving !!!)
McQueen is sentenced to 'community service' - to repair damage he did on his arrival - (which was very amusing !) . Until he resurfaces the town's road he is not allowed to leave. McQueen is an arrogant and selfish character obsessed with becoming a world famous race car and only wants to get out of Radiator Springs and back to the Piston cup race.
However he ends up making plenty of new friends in Radiator Springs and learns a lot of valuable lessons along the way, before returning to the world of racing.
The DVD is good value for money - can be picked up easily for £10 or less. There are also bonus bits with Mater and funny Pixar 'shorts' The weird "One Man Band" short animation is excellent, but none of the other extras worth mentioning really.
I enjoyed watching this film with my boy, even if they are cars there are great voices and like-able characters. They are all fantastically done, not just the famous Lightning McQueen. Favorites include Mater the goofy tow-truck, and the wise old car Doc Hudson who is not what he first seems. There are plenty of catchy lines in the film, plus plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, especially the tractor tipping !!!
As you'd expect it has the classic Disney 'happily ever after' influence and is a story of friendship, love and learning whats really important in life. Combined with the amazing animation and actually a pretty catchy sound track too, this films a definite winner.
If you've got young kids it's worth buying because it's one to watch again and again ! make a good Christmas gift if the little people in your life haven't seen it yet.
My boy's still car mad, Love it !

Advantages: Good CGI, interesting characters, nice concept, quite heart warming Disadvantages: Quite long, story is a little slow half way through (may bore younger kids)

Review of Cars (DVD)
Advantages: One of all-time great comedies; Hughes' best with Martin & Candy making a great team Disadvantages: Bonus features could have been improved; no commentary, no Martin
Advantages: Excellent documentary about the biggest conspiracy in the auto industry Disadvantages: Will no doubt make you angry and outrage that electric cars are not still existing
