Advantages: Good CGI, interesting characters, nice concept, quite heart warming Disadvantages: Quite long, story is a little slow half way through (may bore younger kids)
...Nemo, Monsters Inc., this movie, Cars and the latest one called Ratatouille.
During the Christmas holiday period, I saw a couple of these Pixar movies on terrestrial TV (the BBC), these being Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. I hadn't really watched any of these movies before, at my age I do feel I'm a little old for these but I'll admit that I did find them quite charming and fun. Of course, knowing that the movie Cars features my favourite actor ... ...main acting cast) -
Cars tells the story of a bright red racing car called Lightning McQueen, which is voiced by Owen Wilson. Lightning is a newcomer on the racing track and is doing surprisingly well, managing to get a place to compete for the Piston Cup in California, something he'd always dreamed about!
However, it doesn't all go to plan, when he ends up accidentally being let out the back of the lorry (called Mack, voiced by John Ratzenberger). ...

Advantages: Excellent animation, great characters, brilliant cameos Disadvantages: Weak(ish) storyline, obvious direction
...Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Cars takes the flexibility of animation one step further, however. Whereas other animated box office successes have always kept one toe in the real world, regularly referring to animals or humans or depicting real life creatures, Cars has moved on to create a make-believe world of its own, where human beings don't actually exist and the car really is the Star.
The story revolves around Lightning McQueen, an upstart racecar ... ...and the animation of the cars is nothing less than you would expect from Pixar. Each one emulates its real-life counterpart with clever touches from the animators to give the appearance of a face and exceptional flexibility to portray emotions. Despite the animated vehicles being the stars of the film, you can't help but feel a liking and an emotional link to each and every one of them.
As with all good cartoons, comedy abounds. The humour is excellent ...

Advantages: Great film and fantastic characters - What a film Disadvantages: None - Just make sure you watch it!
...did not want to watch Cars for several minutes because I thought it would be a terrible film, my brother put the film on anyway. It was his choice. He is 5 years older. How lucky was I that he decided this for us. What a film.
Cars is again a great hit by Pixar and one I would recommend to all families, for kids and adults. It is a fantastic film with great cast voices and is full of hilarious characters. I cant remember the last time I had so much ... ...a world filled by anthropomorphic cars and other vehicles. The plot is about a rookie car racer called Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) who is part of the infamous 'Piston Cup Tournament'. Upon his travels to the last race he falls out of his truck and due to having no headlights and wing mirrors he finds it hard to find where he is going. While nearly the entire nation is searching for him, he winds up at a rundown derelict town known as Radiator ...

Disney-Pixar Cars is an entertaining family film the whole family can enjoy together. With a easy to follow plot and plenty of laughs along the way, racing-car fans and car obsessed little boys will love it. The tale begins with rookie race car Lightening McQueen racing for the Piston Cup, which ends up as a tie and the race must be run again. On the way to the race in California, McQueen manages to fall out of his transporter and he ends ... ...boy, even if they are cars there are great voices and like-able characters. They are all fantastically done, not just the famous Lightning McQueen. Favorites include Mater the goofy tow-truck, and the wise old car Doc Hudson who is not what he first seems. There are plenty of catchy lines in the film, plus plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, especially the tractor tipping !!!
As you'd expect it has the classic Disney 'happily ever after' influence ...

...is no winner as three cars cross the finish line at the same time. As a result a new race is scheduled for. However, on the route to California, McQueen manages to fall out of the lorry he's being transported in (amusingly the lorry falls asleep whilst driving), and he ends up in a town called Radiator Springs - a town which was once thriving, but since the old Route 66 was bypassed, has now been forgotten.
Due to the havoc and destruction he caused ... ...the real story isn't about cars - it's about friendship, love and the things which are really important in life. As you'd expect the film does end happily ever after (I hope this doesn't spoil it for those who haven't see it!)
The animation is superb, and attention to detail amazing (even the insects are cars. It really hits home how far Pixar have come since the days of Toy Story (which seemed out-of this world at the time). The film is 112 minutes ...

Advantages: More great songs and sketches from the Australian Children's Group Disadvantages: Honestly can't think of any!
...My son is a big Wiggles fan and 'Here Comes The Big Red Car' is the latest UK release. From the moment we got this DVD home it hasn't been out of the DVD player. One the first day my little one requested to watch it no less that six times! I don't mind. I find that each time we watch it together he has learnt something new; a new song he can sing, a new dance a new body part and so it goes on. The songs are catchy as ever and the sketches funny and educational at the same time. There's also more from the Captain and Crew on this DVD who put in great performances. The whole thing is enjoyable from beginning to end both for children and parents. My little boy would really reccomend it and so do I!...

Advantages: Extra Footage, back ground music Disadvantages: Main Feature, menu
...This dvd is mainly about driving very fast through the streets of stockholm, also has extra footage of motor car events across sweden, and has car reviews.
This dvd has a few problems, the main feature not only is not
very long, has poor camara footage and very little diffrent camara. The dvd also has extra footage of events with better camara work, also which has great background music. This mainly sees cars go round tracks, burouts, drag racing.
The menu has big problems with the fact that the box promises a music video and credits which are not in the dvd or on the menu at all, which was poor producing.
Overall this dvd has a poor main feature but makes up for it a lot in extra footage, allthough all these problems it's not too bad!!...

DVD Description
Talking cars rediscover the quirky originality of middle America in this inventive animated film from the folks at Pixar (TOY STORY, FINDING NEMO). Owen Wilson does the voice of arrogant rookie racecar Lightning McQueen, who winds up stranded in the small desert town of Radiator Springs on his way west to a big showdown. Sentenced to community service after literally tearing up the road in a high-speed chase, at first all Lightning can think of is getting back to the world of corporate sponsorship and merchandising tie-ins he loves so well. Eventually, however, the eccentric residents of Radiator Springs begin to grow on him, especially the attractive lady Porsche lawyer (Bonnie Hunt) and a rusty old tow-truck (Larry the Cable Guy). There's also a hippie Volkswagen (George Carlin), a low-riding T-bird (Cheech Martin) and Paul Newman as the gruff, curmudgeonly Doc Hudson, the town judge who harbors his own checkered-flag past. The story may not be new, but Pixar's precision-engineered animation brilliantly illuminates the town and its surrounding cactus-studded vistas down to the minutest detail, and director/writer John Lasseter keeps the film's satiric wit and generous heart in perfect alignment. Adults in the audience should appreciate the film's celebration of old-school American eccentricity, and the kids will dig all the thunderous grit and high-octane wheel burning.

Review: The voice-cast is given a lift by Paul Newman, whose deep tones dignify his character....Its eye-boggling giant stadiums and desert vistas fill the biggest cinema screen (Sight And Sound, 20/09/2006)
As a technical achievement, CARS is peerless....[The cars] are alive and the team has faithfully crafted an environment for the characters (Total Film, 20/09/2006)
