Introduction
Carry on Screaming is a spoof on the popular Hammer Horror films and a great example of British Comedy. ... ...comedic theme. As with many Carry On films, musical jokes abound. The theme from Steptoe and son follow Harry H Corbett’s horse. The Z Cars theme plays to the police car.The title song, “Carry on Screaming” is sung by Jim Dale. It has catchy lyrics if not a bit silly, “Because when you’re screaming, I know that you’re dreaming of me”.
Puns
As with all Carry Ons, puns proliferate. The obvious one is on Kenneth Williams’ character Dr Watt. Doctor ...

Advantages: Great acting, clever, good use of the horror feel Disadvantages: No Sid, but you don't miss him too much
...comedy and especially of the Carry On films. I wrote a review on Carry On Screaming a couple of years ago, but wanted to write a completely new one so when I saw it was on TV today, I decided it was the ideal opportunity. Yes, I do own Carry On Screaming on video too, but it’s not the same as watching it on TV ;-)
Screaming was made in 1966, becoming the twelfth Carry On film. It was my favourite as a child and I can remember the vivid image ... ...infamous low budget of the Carry On films. Then again, other Carry Ons (notably Henry and Cleo) were similarly lavish on next to nothing by borrowing period costumes from other productions, so perhaps this happened here too. (Hammer Horror, anyone?)
The story incorporates a multitude of horror images with a good old detective story. Borrowing heavily on Sherlock Holmes, we have Harry H. Corbett as Detective Sergeant Bung, aided and hindered by his ...

Advantages: the usual slap-stick comedy Disadvantages: non
...are the trade mark of carry on though in a completely different vein.
A good plot of girls going missing in a dark and misty forest, with the monster oddbod as the minion to the master villan Kenneth Williams, based at a secluded house in the middle of nowhere.
The plot thickens for the Police chief (Harry H Corbett) when a decapitated finger grows into another monster.
This monster consequently escapes and goes staight home(obviously a very clever ... ...usual wit. It's my favorite carry on film because it is totally unique
This film comes highly recommended if for a change you don't want to have to concentrate on it to find out what is going on.
Especially good if your partner is one of those who continually asks whats going on : ) ...

Advantages: Its hilarious Disadvantages: not long enough hehe
...I think this is definatley my favorite carry on film and probably my favorite comedy short of the life of brian. The carry on team return here with a few new additions including Harry h corbett to investigate the mysterious disapearence of a young girl who goes missing in the middle of the woods.A police detective(harry) his side kick and the girls boyfriend(jim dale) follow the clues till they come across a big old house in the woods, they decide to investigate and the story takes off.My favorite Keneth williams stars and steals the show ,Joan sims also gives a memorable performance as the inspectors nagging wife, the gags come thick and fast and keep you giggling all the way through,i hope im not the only who who thinks this is the best one they did.
What makes this film great is the cast that are obviously enjoying themselves...

Advantages: Monsters & Fenella Fielding Disadvantages: Lack of extras
...'s home & is then named Junior & trained to kidnap girls just like Oddbod.
Bung & Slothbotham set up a sting operation to try and capture the monster but Slothbotham (dressed as a women) is kidnapped by Oddbod, Bungs wife is also kidnapped by Oddbod as she had followed Bung thinking he was having an illicit rendezvous with another women.
This has a great horror ending with Bung, Slobotham & Potter all being chased by Oddbod & Junior, Potter becoming a werewolf and Watt's mummy getting animated and throwing Watt into the vitrifying liquid they has previously used to turn the kidnapped women into dummies.
It's a great movie with lots of funny jokes both visual and wordplay. The dvd has subtitles and information about the movie itself. In general Carry On dvd's don't ever have much in the way of extras and this isn't much different....

Advantages: Some good performances, fairly funny, good farce Disadvantages: A bit old hat
...resembles a second class Addams Family one, but the period costumes are good.
Whether or not you will like this film depends on you. Some will still find it hilarious, others may have done once upon a time and for some the humour will escape them and always would have done. For me I still manage a giggle or two if I watch this. It is on Television from time to time and is available on DVD at a cheap price.
As Carry On films go it is an 8/10 one. The characters and actors are good but I feel it was very much of the time. Still if you are into Carry On films you should like this film.
My favourite line from the film, in common with many viewers, is Kenny Williams screaming ' Frying Tonight' just before his demise. You will have to watch the film to the end though to catch it.
