By a country mile this is most definately my favourite Carry On film for many different reasons.
It used to scare the heck out of me as a child (I remember having nightmares about it several times after seeing it as a very young boy) but as I grew older I found Fenella Fielding extremely sexy and enjoyed watching it for her amazing performance.
This is the Carry On teams take on classic British Horror, emulating such greats as Hammer Studios. They give us Frankensteins, Werewolves & a Mummy. This is one of the more unusual Carry Ons as we don't have Sid James (who was away doing theatre at the time), Hattie Jaques or Barbara Windsor.
Instead the male lead is played by Harry H. Corbett (better known as Harold Steptoe) despite being written for Sid James, the character is even called Sidney Bung but to maintain a Sid James type of continuity his battle axe of a wife is played by Carry On regular Joan Sims who normally did play SId's wife in most of the movies they appeared together in.
Replacing Babs Windsor in the cheesecake role is Angela Douglas playing Doris Mann who had previously played a similar role in Carry On Cowboy. Due to pressure from American audiences Charles Hawtrey was cast at a very late point to play Dan Dan.
Bernard Bresslaw returned to play Sockett, the deadpan butler and Jim Dale played the young male lead Albert Potter who the story is written around. Other Carry On regulars were Kenneth Williams playing Dr Watt parodying the fact that Jon Pertwee (who would go on to become Doctor Who in a few short years) was also appearing in the movie and Peter Butterworth playing Bungs assistant Constable Slobotham.
The basic plot of this is girls are being abducted in a local lovers spot called Hockum Woods normally never to be seen again. That is until its Doris Mann who is taken and her boyfriend Albert Potter is determined to find her. Big footprints are found and followed to the home of Dr Watt & his sister Valeria but no trace of the missing women is found, only shop dummies that Watt & Valeria are making as mannequins.
When Albert sees what he thinks is Doris as a mannequin in a shop window he is arrested but eventually released when they show the mannequin doesn't have the same birthmark as Doris.
After repeatedly visiting Valeria Bung is transformed into a Werewolf to aid their cause. The dummy is stolen by Werewolf Bung & Watts monster Oddbod and a finger is found at the scene of the crime which generates into a fullsized creature when examined by Dr Fettle which returns to Watt's home & is then named Junior & trained to kidnap girls just like Oddbod.
Bung & Slothbotham set up a sting operation to try and capture the monster but Slothbotham (dressed as a women) is kidnapped by Oddbod, Bungs wife is also kidnapped by Oddbod as she had followed Bung thinking he was having an illicit rendezvous with another women.
This has a great horror ending with Bung, Slobotham & Potter all being chased by Oddbod & Junior, Potter becoming a werewolf and Watt's mummy getting animated and throwing Watt into the vitrifying liquid they has previously used to turn the kidnapped women into dummies.
It's a great movie with lots of funny jokes both visual and wordplay. The dvd has subtitles and information about the movie itself. In general Carry On dvd's don't ever have much in the way of extras and this isn't much different.
