Production Year: 1983 - Comedy - Director: Harold Ramis, Amy Heckerling, Jeremiah S. Chechik, Stephen Kessler - Original Language: English - Classification: 15 years and over
Advantages: some hilarious sequences Disadvantages: some scenes aren't as good as others
...Although Carry On Regardless doesn't seem to be one of the most popular of the black & white Carry On films, it is one of my favourites. It is also the one I have seen most often of this era, as my Dad recorded it off the TV years ago & we often watched it. The end sequence of the house falling down is one of my most vivid memories of the Carry Ons, along with Stanley Unwin's wonderful lingo :-)
This is about the Helping Hands Agency, set up by Sid James' Bert Handy & ably assisted by the dotty Miss. Cooling, played by Esma Cannon.
Their premise is to help out in any situation & match up the requirements of the task to the varied talents of its staff. However, the cards with the information on get mixed up, so the wrong people get sent to the wrong tasks & there lies the core joke.
Some scenes are funnier than others, but it is well...

Advantages: Classic comedy, funny, silly and daft in parts, fun, family friendly Disadvantages: Dated at times and black and white
...Carry On Regardless is one of the earlier Carry On films and as such is a black and white offering. Like them or loathe them the phrase Carry On has become part of our language, as well as plainly representing this series of farcical comedy films.
Carry On Regardless was released in 1961 and, to my mind, is Carry On at it's very best. I always thought that this film was the first but it is actually the fifth film out of the twenty nine made. The story line, although sketchy as always, to say the least comes together quite nicely in this film. The Carry on team are a group of unemployed men and women who are struggling to find work. Being unable to, they decide to team up and set up an agency called Helping Hands. This firm will supply the perfect person for most jobs, matching the temp with suitable work. Of course it all goes terribly...

Advantages: The Carry On gang Disadvantages: lacks a plot, but performances make up for that
...It's almost as if Norman Hudis knew his formula had gone a bit stale with Carry On Constable, because with Carry On Regardless he makes a few changes - and changes for the better.
Yes the film is still about a collection of misfits, but at least Kenneth Connor gets a rest from being neurotic and superstitious. And thank God we get a rest from the romantic entanglements that usually accompany his neuroses and phobias.
The film has very little plot, but is more enjoyable for it. It's simply a whole string of sketches about a collection of employees for a firm that supplies 'Helping Hands', which allow each of our Carry On heroes to shine. And so we have Joan Sims getting drunk at a wine tasting and being pawed over by Jerry Desmonde, Liz Fraser trying on underwear for Jimmy Thompson and getting her wires crossed with Ian Curry who thinks...

Advantages: good performances Disadvantages: dated, lame
...from the pen of master horror writer stephen King, you would expect a tale of superb horro, you might be a little disappointed. For its time, carrie was a good movie. Over the years the effects have got much better, and although the acting is great the story seems a little laboured and stretched. now it would probably be given a 12 rating if it were to come out at the cinema, and its far to easy to guess what is going to happen next. It was good at its time but hardly worth renting or buying now, unless you are a mad king fan, or this is your first horror film, then go ahead....
