A slight diversion into the desert for the Carry On team this as the starring role goes to the legendary American Phil Silvers who plays (in what's practically a reprise of his...
more...Bilko role) an officer in the Foreign Legion who finds himself in charge of an Englishman (Jim Dale) who has joined to prove his honour after being accused of cheating at cricket.

Carry On Follow That Camel is a bit of change for the Carry On team - for those unaware Carry On movies were a long running series of films starting way back in 1958 and running up to 1978 which always followed the same formula of a send up of an institution or type of movie and a cast of regulars who appeared in these films

The change this time is whilst there is no Sid James there is, making his only Carry On appearence the American comedian Phil Silvers best know for his popular TV series of the fifties The Phil Silvers Show in which he played the character of Sgt Bilko. Bilko was alway scamming people and here Silvers effectivily plays the same role only this time he is called Sgt Nocker

The story is based on Beau Geste which is set in the desert and involves Geste joining the Foreign Legion.

The Geste character is played by Jim Dale and his manservant by Peter Butterworth both to great comedic effect. Kenneth Williams plays the Camp Commandant with an outrageous German Accent. They are all ably supported by Charles HawtryJoan Sims Bernard Bresslaw Angela Douglas and Anita Harris

The plot in true Carry On style is basically made up of set pieces this time involing Harem Beauties Blood thirsty Bedouins and the inept Legionaires

If you like Carry Ons this is probably on of the better ones and the cast seem to be having a great time

As this is the Special Edition it contains an audio commentary from Jim Dale ( one of the few remaining cast members ) a very uncomfortable promotional interview with Phil Silvers which is basically him talking straight to camera about how wonderful London is and how happy he is to appear in the film
A theatrical trailer, A stills gallery and a collectors booklet. I would guess the average Carry On fan would expect a few more extras

Currently selling at 12.99 in most shops my copy was bought on e bay for 3.50 and in great condition worth shopping around as 12.99 is very pricey considering the disc
