The story is based around the tale of Christopher Columbus & his discovery of America. Jim Dale pleasingly takes the title role & seeing him in another Carry On role is the best thing about the film.
It is a nice touch that many of the 'old' Carry On cast ... ...Douglas, Bernard Cribbins & Jon Pertwee.
As for the newcomers, they obviously have a difficult act to follow, as people like Sid James & Kenneth Williams can rarely be imitated effectively. (I would have said never, until I saw 'Cor Blimey' !!)

The story is based around the tale of Christopher Columbus & his discovery of America. Jim Dale pleasingly takes the title role & seeing him in another Carry On role is the best thing about the film. It is a nice touch that many of the 'old' Carry On cast feature in this one - June Whitfield, Leslie Phillips, Jack Douglas, Bernard Cribbins & Jon Pertwee. As for the newcomers, they obviously have a difficult act to follow, as people like Sid James & Kenneth Williams can rarely be imitated effectively. (I would have said never, until I saw 'Cor Blimey' !!) I think Julian Clary & Rik Mayall are the best of the new team, but they do lack the special qualities of their predecessors. However, although this is disappointing, it is much better than England or Emmannuelle & I don't think it deserves all the criticism it frequently gets. Worth watching.
Advantages: If you are a classic Carry On fan - this is a must see! Disadvantages: So saddening that more of the original team could not be part of this.
...in this really puts the carry on camping humor into this enjoyable film.
Press and review appear to give this film an undeserved bad rating constantly. This is unfair. You could never compare this to the greatness of the original carry-ons, but as a film of it's own. It's a comical adventure worth watching! ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: somewhat helpful Review of Carry On Columbus (DVD)
The final film in the long running British comedy series, CARRY ON COLUMBUS features the same combination of broad humour in a genre or historical setting as its predecessors. Christopher Columbus (Jim Dale) believes he has found a way to reach the Far East without travelling through the lands of the greedy Sultan of Turkey. Convincing the Spanish King and Queen of the merit of his idea, he sets sail to the West. But the Sultan, not about to let his trading routes be circumvented, sends his finest spy, the luscious Fatima, to stop Columbus using any means necessary. CARRY ON COLUMBUS contains enough bawdy humour and slapstick to be considered a worthy end to the classic comedy series.
