There are goings-on after lights out, collapsing tents, a mix up with a mad bull, panic in the washrooms and a rude awakening from a bunch of hippies. Prepare for an onslaught of robust breezy humour when the Carry On team take to the great Outdoors.

Sid James is a likely-ish, if slightly elderly lad, persuading Joan Sims to join him at what he secretly expects to be a nudist colony. Terry Scott is a put-upon suburbian, coerced into outdoor vacations by his ghastly, horsey-laughed wife, while Charles Hawtrey is the campest of campers who befriends them. Kenneth Williams, who alone makes this worth watching, is gloriously ridiculous as head of a girl's school, Chayste Place, with Hattie Jacques as Matron and Barbara Windsor as one of the 30 year old fifth formers in their charge. Technically it's terrible stuff, with Barbara Windsor's flying bra, laboured puns galore, peeping tomfoolery, punchlines visible two miles off, "comedy" incidental music and a reactionary denouement in which they chase off a bunch of hippies. Because the film contains a lot of nudity , the men think it would be an excellent idea to go on a camping trip ; thinking that it will be similar to what they seen on screen. When they arrive at the camping site , the boys are disappointed by the fact that this is actually a family camping site and not as they had hoped a 'nudist' camping site , like the camping site they had seen on the film at the cinema. Although they are soon cheered up by the arrival of some girls (including the ever so funny , Barbara Windsor) from the finishing school Chayste Place. What will happen on this Camping trip ? Watch Carry On Camping to find out!
This film is a laugh-a-minute! The jokes are actually funny and not too cheesy like some of the British films you get these days! After watching this film , it makes you feel good to call yourself British! This must be one of the best British films ever! One of the funniest scenes in the film , is the one where Barbara Windsor's bra explodes during an exercise session! It is a very scene!
Although this film has a very simple story , it is very effective indeed.
Barbara's character is my favourite one in this film , as she's so cheeky yet innocent with it! I cannot believe it's Peggy from Eastenders! All the actors and actresses play their parts really well.
One thing I did find about the film is that because there was so many main characters , sometimes it was hard to keep up with names. I can't remember her name , but the woman with the horrible laugh got on my nerves. I didn't mind her character so much but her laugh really annoyed me. I thought the relationship between DR Soaper and the Matron was very funny especially in the tent!
There are many laughs to had with this film! It's definitely a feel good film!
* Quotes * Charlie Muggins: Hello. What's a nice girl like you doing with an old cow? Girl with cow: I'm taking her to the bull. Charlie Muggins: Well couldn't your father do that? Girl with cow: No it must the the bull.
Dr. Kenneth Soaper: Barbara dear, do you think your quite suitably dressed for travelling? Babs: Oh but sir, we were told to bring the minimum of clothing.
Advantages: Good cast, some funny lines Disadvantages: Dated and crudie in parts
CARRY ON BACKGROUND
*********************************
I have already included much of this background in another review but it is in this one for those that have not read the other review. Hm that's as clear as mud but I guess you get what I mean. The Carry On Films started in 1958 with Carry On Sergeant, which was made in Black and White and set in the post war years, when conscription was still around. From then, until 1978, twenty nine Carry ... ...were several mainstays of the Carry On cast and these included Kenneth Williams, Joan Sims, Charles Hawtrey, Sid James, Kenneth Connor, Hattie Jacques and Bernard Bresslaw. Barbara Windsor often provided the sex interest but was only actually in ten of these films. The last few of these films failed to succeed and were pretty pathetic. The public's humour had changed slightly and these films did seem quite sexist. However I think that these days ...

...- UK Gold have a Carry On marathon!
To celebrate I thought I'd look at arguably the most famous Carry On of them all - Carry On Camping. Certainly if there was a film to show the Carry On 'virgin' then this one would be it. It has all the elements needed for a successful, true Carry On - a great cast, corny jokes, a British institution (wet camping holidays) and lots of scantily clad girls in bikinis.

Advantages: the whole thing is excellent Disadvantages: some continuity errors, but - hey - so what ???
Carry On Camping is one of the very best of the Carry On films & when most people think of them, they will picture Barbara Windsor's bikini top flying off in this one. It is hilarious from start to finish, as the characters battle with their own foibles, the problems in their relationships & then an invasion of dancing hippies !!
It is hard to pick out a particular actor or actress in this one, as they all work so well together, that the film is ... ...know they had to paint the grass green, it spoils a few illusions, but it is wonderful & a timeless classic.
Terry Scott & Betty Marsden are great as a couple, sharing their tent with Charles Hawtrey.
Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Joan Sims, Dilys Laye, Barbara Windsor & Hattie Jacques all excel too, with Peter Butterworth's aptly named Josh Fiddler standing out as the most memorable in a lot of scenes.
All in all, excellent :-) ...

WHAT ON EARTH IS A CARRY ON FILM?
Well for all us 30 something's it means good old classic slapstick fun. I grew up watching these films, as they are light hearted, ridiculous and ever so slightly rude comedies. They made great Sunday afternoon viewing.
The Carry on actors/actresses were nearly always the same from film to film. Apart from Carry on Camping, Rank also made Carry On Loving, Carry on up the Khyber, Carry on Matron, Carry on Emmanuel, Carry on Columbus and the best of the bunch in my view was Carry on Screaming. I think off the top of my head they made about 30 in total but please forgive me if I am out by a film or two.
The first film was made in 1958 and the last in 1992. They were all produced at Pinewood Studio's in Iver, Middlesex. My dad worked as a stagehand for many years and occasionally I was given a quick ...
