Advantages: still a scary movie after all these years Disadvantages: you'll gross out in the last 10 minutes!
...Sissy Spacek stars as Carrie White, the tormented daughter of a religious nutcase played by Piper Laurie. Sissy plays a social outcast who is tormented (and when I say tormented - I mean really tormented!) by her callous, heartless classmates. Carrie is certainly not having a good time at school. After a really nasty prank in the girl’s locker room (anybody who's seen the movie knows what i'm on about), one of the bullies starts to feel sorry ... ...Tommy to ask Carrie to the prom. He agrees and for once, you start to feel happy for Carrie, but, (you knew that was coming!) when one of the other class mates sees her having a nice time, she decides to pull a prank on her that proves all too deadly. Carrie’s rage turns into telekinetic powers. (just wait for the climax at the school gym!) I think it's very much the adult version of Roald Dahl's ‘Matilda’ (with a bit more blood ...

Advantages: great acting by Sissy Spacek Disadvantages: looks a little bit dated now
...revolves around the self-titled 'heroine' Carrie (Sissy Spacek). Carrie, a schoolgirl, lives with her strict Christian mother (Piper Laurie), and is continuously bullied at school, as well as at home. Her mother is very protective of Carrie and wants to keep her as innocent as possible for as long as she can. The first scene of the film sees Carrie being attacked in the girls' cloakroom after panicking whilst having her first period. This is particularly ... ...As the film continues, Carrie begins to realise that she has telekinetic powers (being able to make objects move without touching them). Her P.E. teacher (Betty Buckley) takes pity on Carrie, and sets about punishing the bullies. When one of the bullies (Nancy Allen) refuses, she forfeits her right to go to the school Prom (with John Travolta, no less). She then schemes to get her own back... One of Carrie's other classmates (Amy Irving) takes pity ...

Advantages: You will not want to take your eyes off the screen all the way through this film. Disadvantages: n/a
...of the same name. Carrie White (excellently portrayed by Sissy Spacek) is a shy and unassuming schoolgirl who is the brunt of her classmate’s jokes. This is mainly the fault of her overbearingly religious mother Margaret White (Piper Laurie) who preaches the gospel to everyone and everything, including her own daughter.
The film begins as Carrie is showering after her gym lesson and she suddenly begins to bleed. Carrie has been taught nothing ... ...Miss Collins (Betty Buckley), and Carrie is helped away to get dressed. Miss Collins is also amazed that Carrie knew nothing about puberty but is sympathetic and takes her to the Principal in order for her to be allowed home. It is during this meeting that we are given the first clue that all is not well.
Once Carrie arrives to her house she immediately wants to know why her mother did not tell her anything about the changes that occur during teenage ...

Stephen King's Carrie is brought to life here in this mid-seventies adaptation by Brian De Palma. It is an adaptation which is nothing short of excellent, but which lacks some of the pace of King's novel. The story itself is probably one which is known to all, but if it has managed to pass you by over the years then it goes a little something like this:
Carrie is an unpopular teenage girl in high school. Her classmates think she is weird and freaky ... ...banter which goes on there. Carrie has her first period in the showers and has no clue as to what is going on - freaking out because she thinks she is bleeding to death whilst everyone else hovers over her taunting and jeering. They are punished of course, and when Carrie returns home, she herself is punished again by her mother who claims that it is because she has sinned that God has visited this upon her...like I said she is quite insane. The ...

...bone, especially the ones featuring Carrie and her mother. The story centres on a strange loner in a small town who lives with her obsessively religious mother and is naive about most things in life, such as puberty, which we find out in the disturbing first scene. Carrie is taunted by her classmates and when the PE teacher, who has taken pity on Carrie punishes all the girls, one plans revenge but another is sorry for Carrie and persuades her boyfriend ... ...right to go. Carrie eventually agrees to go against her mother’s wishes and even makes her own dress. By now we have begun to be introduced to Carrie’s strange telekinetic powers. At the prom Carrie is actually having a good time and so is her date, who originally did not want to go with her. But the girl who resents Carrie has planned to ruin her night and does so in the most shocking fashion. Carrie is humiliated in front of the whole ...

Advantages: the whole thing is excellent Disadvantages: some continuity errors, but - hey - so what ???
...Carry On Camping is one of the very best of the Carry On films & when most people think of them, they will picture Barbara Windsor's bikini top flying off in this one.
It is hilarious from start to finish, as the characters battle with their own foibles, the problems in their relationships & then an invasion of dancing hippies !!
It is hard to pick out a particular actor or actress in this one, as they all work so well together, that the film is almost faultless. Yes, there are continuity errors & when you know they had to paint the grass green, it spoils a few illusions, but it is wonderful & a timeless classic.
Terry Scott & Betty Marsden are great as a couple, sharing their tent with Charles Hawtrey.
Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Joan Sims, Dilys Laye, Barbara Windsor & Hattie Jacques all excel too, with Peter Butterworth's aptly...

Advantages: good solid film, more laughs Disadvantages: still lacking 'something' but a very good film
...Carry On Constable was made in 1959, released in 1960 & is the first time the series is graced by the huge talents of Sid James.
This film is set around a police station, with Sid as Sergeant Wilkins. Eric Barker is his boss, the formidable Inspector Mills with Hattie Jacques as Sergeant Moon.
Some new recruits arrive at the police station - Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Connor (as Constable Constable !) & Leslie Phillips. Their incompetence provides the laughs throughout, which seem more than in the previous three films. Although the humour is still fairly gentle, I find I do laugh out loud at more during this one.
This is definitely worth watching & is one of the better of the earlier films, in my opinion....

Advantages: very clever, hilarious, great cast, wonderful gags Disadvantages: none
...Carry On Cleo is a wonderful Carry On, a real classic ! From the first scenes of Jim Dale & Kenneth Connor as Ancient Britons - Horsa & Hengist Pod, inventing a 'win-dow' & square wheels, this film starts off as brilliant & just gets better !
As the Roman soldiers come in & capture the two men, they are taken to Rome to sell into slavery. But they manage to escape & somehow, cowardly Hengist Pod gets the job as Mark Antony's chief bodyguard !
Sid James is a perfect Mark Antony, with Amanda Barrie a stunning Cleopatra. Kenneth Williams is great as Julius Caesar & utters the famous cry of 'Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me !'
The whole film is peppered with quotable quotes, great performances & hilarious lines. Look out for Jon Pertwee's soothsayer, that's a great cameo too !
It is absolutely brilliant, one of the best, watch...

Actor(s): Sissy Spacek, Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, Nancy Allen, Betty Buckley, Sydney Lassick, Stefan Gierasch, P. J. Soles
Brian De Palma's commercial breakout, based on a novel by Stephen King, helped launch a whole slew of teen-based horror films, and Carrie the blood-spattered prom queen has taken her throne in the pantheon of modern American myth. High school girls played by Amy Irving (in her film debut), P.J. Soles, and Nancy Allen plot to avenge themselves on ostracized fellow student and budding telekinetic Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) after they get in trouble for pelting her with tampons. When they get popular boy Tommy Ross (William Katz) to be her date for the prom, the stage is set for some heart-rending cruelty and fiery retribution. De Palma expertly uses split screens, slow motion, color filters, and tracking shots to imbue the proceedings with a haunting, allegorical elegance. Piper Laurie plays Carrie's mentally ill, devoutly Christian mom; she's brilliant, as is Spacek. John Travolta has a memorable pre-SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER role as one of the girls' beer-guzzling boyfriends. There was finally a sequel in 1999, as well as a short-lived Broadway musical.
