Disaster at the Prom. Review ofCarrie (Special Edition) (Wide Screen)by
nickyturnill
Advantages: A great psychological horror film. Disadvantages: None
...Brian De Palma in 1976, Carrie has been hailed as a classic film, I can't believe I managed to go all these years without seeing it. 'Carrie' is obviously enough, the story of a young girl called Carrie White (Played by Sissy Spacek). She is bullied at school and one day she starts her periods in the showers after playing netball. Carrie's mother (Played by Piper Laurie) is a repressive and fanatically religious women and she believes is that menstruation ... ...discussed. She has not told Carrie to expect periods and unsurprisingly she completely freaks out in the showers, she thinks she is dying. The other girls throw tampons and towels at her, they laugh at her and torment her as she screams in horror until being rescued by Gym teacher Miss Collins' (played by Betty Buckley) …… The school contact Mrs White to tell her about the incident and when Carrie tries to talk to her mother about it, she is thrown ...

matilda grows up Review ofCarrie (Special Edition) (Wide Screen)by
nirvanamm
Advantages: strikes a chord with anyone whos been bullied Disadvantages: not enough scenes with the carnage at the prom
this movie is suprisingly gore-free but is very high on the creepiness and suspense. maybe a little too much suspense. the scenes at the prom are amazing but after all that buildup you can't help but feel a little of an anticlimax. you just don't get to see enough of the panic at the prom. they really linger over her mothers (spectacular) death but id have loved to see a bit more panic and carnage at the school. maybe thats just me though! lol! great ... ...actually like. usually i love the books and find the movie a disappointment but this was actually almost on a par with the book. you'l really buy sissy spacek as the misfit loner Carrie, she radiates a sense of disomfort in her own skin and a vague terror of everything. ...

Advantages: scary as hell, great actiing from sissy spacek Disadvantages: confusing sometimes
...- love the one where carrie walks out of the school gym covered in blood - a ghostly yet serene figure. Its definitely one to watch with someone for company! sissy spacek carries off the role brilliantly and there is loads of great imagery - check out christ and the mother!!! eyes and their significance - christ/mother/carrie/chris figure a lot which makes the film even wierder... creepy! the special effects were great for the time (though the levitating ...

DVD Description
Brian De Palma's commercial breakout, based on a novel by Stephen King, helped launch a whole slew of teen-based horror films, and Carrie the blood-spattered prom queen has taken her throne in the pantheon of modern American myth. High school girls played by Amy Irving (in her film debut), P.J. Soles, and Nancy Allen plot to avenge themselves on ostracized fellow student and budding telekinetic Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) after they get in trouble for pelting her with tampons. When they get popular boy Tommy Ross (William Katz) to be her date for the prom, the stage is set for some heart-rending cruelty and fiery retribution. De Palma expertly uses split screens, slow motion, color filters, and tracking shots to imbue the proceedings with a haunting, allegorical elegance. Piper Laurie plays Carrie's mentally ill, devoutly Christian mom; she's brilliant, as is Spacek. John Travolta has a memorable pre-SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER role as one of the girls' beer-guzzling boyfriends. There was finally a sequel in 1999, as well as a short-lived Broadway musical.
Special Features: Acting Carrie Documentary, Visualising Carrie Documentary, Singing Carrie Featurette, The Master Of Horror Stephen King Featurette, Animated Photo Gallery, Original Theatrical Trailer
