Listen up, possums! The self-proclaimed reincarnation of Prokofiev's mother(!), Dame Edna ... more
Everage here makes a delightful debut on the children's circuit. Prokofiev's famous work transcends the traditional limits of its genre, and thanks to the wit and charm of her camp persona, the Dame does the same. Her tongue in cheek rendition, backed by her hometown Melbourne Symphony, is sure to make parents want to sit down with their children to enjoy the stories. Also on the album is a certain Barry Humphries giving a warm-hearted Babar the Elephant and, finally, Britten's Purcell-inspired Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Many parents will probably have strong preferences for their own favourite recording of Peter and the Wolf. But this one scores well above "Everage". Yngvil V.G

, cluttering up the kitchen but the man is comic genius, and Animals is one of his best shows.
I saw the show live, and the DVD has been watched numerous times. It is still hard not to raise a smile when Ricky explains to the audience about this new theory that contradicts Darwin's version of events that he 'found in a dusty old book in the library'... 'It's called the bible.. '.. 'And it's called The Gospel - so it must be true - clue's in the name!'
The show goes on, covering everything from Sharks and Nazis - "sharks good, nazis less so.." to homosexuality in the jungle and of course the tale of Adam and Eve and how the poor snake was forced to crawl on his belly for the rest of his days - "not the worst possible punishment for a snake.." A fabulous DVD and a wonderful show. Check out the 'extras' on the DVD if you are still unconvinced ...
Advantages: Something to watch Disadvantages: you have to pay rental/buying cost
Wes Cravens Carnival of souls.
This film comes with sub titles such as: “Wes Craven unleashes another stylish SCREAMER”, and “A nightmarishly surreal roller coaster ride of shocks and scares!" But does this 18 certificate DVD live up to the dramatic sub titles?
The film opens quite peacefully with a young lady picking flowers. Having a basket full of them, she runs home to show her mummy. However, when she enters her home and calls out for her mummy, there is no reply! Is her mum gone? Has she turned into a psychosomatic woman, about to k ill everyone in sight? Well, no actually she is in the bedroom with a rather strange man! The young lady then sees her mummy....well maybe I won’t tell you in case you do want to watch it yourself.
This film is intended to be a horror, but to be honest it’s hardly ...
Advantages: Excellent adventure story. Good and varied Special Features. Disadvantages: Reminds you that most of the cast are no longer with us!
Carnival of Monsters is the latest Doctor Who DVD release from the BBC. If you don?t want to know the plot outline and get straight onto the DVD review, skip the next 2 paragraphs.
The third doctor (Jon Pertwee) and Jo Grant (Katy Manning) materialise aboard the SS. Bernice during a test flight in the TARDIS. They believe the year is 1926 and that the location is the Indian Ocean (they were actually aiming for Metebolis Three, but that?s another story?blame the TARDIS?s sense of direction!)?how wrong could they be?
The two time travellers begin to discover that they are trapped in The Scope ? a sophisticated ?peep show? containing specimens from all over the universe (look out for the wonderful carnivorous Drashigs!). They are all miniaturised and are there for the amusement of the populous of Inter Minor. The machine begins to ...
