The mastermind behind such classic television programs as THUNDERBIRDS and SPACE:1999 brings viewers another childrens' science fiction gem with CAPTAIN SCARLET. First produced in 1968, the show takes place in the year 2068, when a group of omnipotent invisible beings called Mysterons have taken over the earth. Captain Scarlet, the top agent of the human's security force Spectrum, is the only one who can save them.
Advantages: All the Captain Scarlet stuff you'll ever need Disadvantages: None
...CaptainScarlet was another Gerry Anderson hit show, and was more sophisticated than the ground-breaking 'Thunderbirds', though without so many fancy rockets!
As an eight-year-old child Scarlet's foes the Mysterons were as scary, to me, as the Daleks. Captain Black was like a good-looking Davros - but just as evil!
As with all of Gerry Anderson shows, there were good looking female dolls (!) in the shape of the heroic, dynamic Angels - Rhapsody, Harmony, Melody, Destiny, and Symphony.
CaptainScarlet himself, of course, is indestructible, but sometimes you think he's just not going to make it!
A great nostalgia trip this DVD - and nice for kids like me who never grew up!
The 6 DVD set has lots of extras:
Audio Adventures
Original ITC Publicity
Memorabilia
Gerry Anderson Commentary

Advantages: Very well presented boxset, would suit a collector Disadvantages: repetitive title sequences and menu's on each dvd
...When I first got the boxset I was surprised to see how small the box was, the dvd's are very well presented in an open out style case.
At a glance it may not look much but there's over 12 hours of action in this boxset.
For fans of other Gerry Anderson puppet shows such as Thunderbirds and CaptainScarlet this is a must see.
On the DVD's themselves each one has exactly the same menu and title sequence, personally I would have liked to have seen a little more differring but this isn't important.
Most people remember Joe 90 the 9 year "most special agent" for the agency W.I.N., and most of all, his glasses which give him the brain pattern of any expert to assist him in his highly dangerous missions.
I would reccommend this DVD to any children and parents alike.
If you want hours of fun then this is the DVD...

...Fireball XL5
I had vague memories of this from when I was a child (I was born 1964) and so I guess must have watched repeats but watching the DVDs brought the series back clearly.
Fireball XL5 was the fore runner of Stingray, CaptainScarlet and Thunderbirds.
This was on tv in 1962, and Contained 39 episode.
Synopsis:
Set one hundred years into the future, it is the year 2063, and the 300ft spaceship, fireball XL5 is out in space protecting sector 25.
Aboard the spaceship is colonel Steve Zodiac, the sexy blonde doctor Venus and the transparent robot called Robert.
At the end of most missions Robert the Robot would announce his catchphrase, "on our way 'ome", due to his inability to pronounce the letter 'H'.
Also aboard was Professor Matt who was a navigation mathematics genius, who had his own navigation bay on the ship.
Another odd...
