Rose,Candymanrises above most horror films by eerily suggesting that some urban legends--in this case a particularly frightening one--have a spooky basis in reality. The legend of the Candyman is a potent one around the high-rise tenements of Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing complex, where the residents speak of a dark, ominous figure who appears when his victims say his name five times in front of a mirror, then mercilessly slashes them to death. Upon learning that the Candyman is rumoured to live in one of the vacant tenements, a University of Illinois researcher (Virginia Madsen) investigates a recent murder at Cabrini-Green. She learns that the Candyman (played by Tony Todd) is both unreal and chillingly real--a supernatural force of evil empowered by those who believe in his legend. He is a killer made flesh by the belief of others, and the young researcher's investigation is a threat to his existence. What happens next? We wouldn't dare spoil the chills, but rest assured that writer-director Rose has tapped into a wellspring of urban angst and fear, andCandymanserves up its gruesome frights with a refreshing dose of intelligence. --Jeff Shannon

Not wanting to spoil the fun for everyone but it transpires through the film that donna is actually a direct descendant of the candyman. Hard to believe but its true. He wants her to take her 'rightful' place by his side. But of course she doesnt want that and ... ...but hey i like the candyman films so i was bound to like this one.
It was bought for me so have no idea how much it cost but would say its reasonable value for money. And yes, i did jump with fear quite a few times. I also felt pity for the candyman and finally understood the significance of the mirror.
But i'll let you all find that one out for yourselves. Dont watch it in a dark room. And steer clear of the mirror ... more
Well, if, like me you like a good scary movie, this one will make you jump but its not as scary as you would think.

I wont go into the gory details but there is plenty of blood and a lot of semi-scary moments through the film but its not as scary as the cover would make out. More of a thriller in my mind but hey i like the candyman films so i was bound to like this one.

But i'll let you all find that one out for yourselves. Dont watch it in a dark room. And steer clear of the mirror immediately after watching the film. I had a friend watch it with me and she couldnt look in a mirror without being petrified for a couple of days, i must be hardened to the fear factor now.
I personally have watched the film a number of times now and it never fails to entertain me. And yes, i still jump in fear at some scenes and still cover my eyes for others. There are certain parts of the film i have yet to see. My hands are usually firmly clamped over the eyes at those points!
The Candyman was Daniel Robataille, a black slave, who just happened to fall in love with a white woman. A mob caught him, cut off his hand, drenched his body in honey and, as a result, this attracted bees which stung him to death. Caroline McKeever, a struggling artist, unaware that she is the Candyman's last living descendent, starts to experience visions and her dreams are filled with images of a hook-handed stranger begging her to help him in his quest for revenge...
