Since joining ciao and posting my 'about me' photo I've had a number of comments - most of them fairly rude - about the hat I am wearing in the picture. I've now been warned by another ciaoster that if I don't write about my hat, he will and it seems likely to be safer if I do it myself. So I'm using this as a piece of self-indulgence involving two of my favourite things - hats and bears.
The hat in question is what's known as a 'Buff'. I have absolutely no idea why it's called that but I don't go anywhere without one and sometimes with two. I'm currently having a bit of a crisis because I can't find the black one but it will probably turn up before my holiday. If it's hot a Buff stops me burning my head, if it's cold it keeps me warm. But that's just putting things too simply - there's a lot more to a Buff than that.
Stylish ...

Buffs is situated in the heart of the old part of Cardiff Bay at No. 8 Mount Stuart Square.
Buffs is a good quality restaurant and wine bar where children are welcomed.
During the week the downstairs wine bar is open for lunches and early evening bar meals, with specials starting at £5 per head.
'Lighter Bites' can be had in the bar downstairs, these range from salads to jacket potatoes to hot meals and omelettes.
The restaurant is open upstairs for evening service and Sunday lunches ( 1200-1600hrs) at £9.95 for a superb two course traditional roast.
Bookings are advisable as Sunday lunch here is very popular.
The childrens' portions were only slightly smaller and were significantly cheaper.
We booked a table of of eight here for a Sunday lunch. We ordered a variety of starters, home made soups, prawn cocktails, pate ...
The Body Shop has always liked to push its products underneath an ethical tag. I'm all for companies being as green and ethical as possible, (and from everything I read and hear direct from office staff they do stick to their word on it) but I sometimes find it a little hard to believe that corporations as big as The Body Shop can be all that angelic. To give you the low-down, The Body Shop formed in Brighton over thirty years ago by (the now) Dame Anita Roddick. Back then it was just one small shop; it is now a global business with more than 2,100 stores. It is now part of the L'Oreal group and is run following initiatives such as "Support Community Trade", "Against Animal Testing" and "Protect Our Planet".
Back to the product. This 'Brush On Buff' is sold at £11.50 online, a lot of money if you ask me. The most expensive cosmetic I tend to ...

"...The film is both hilarious and down to earth... Outstanding..." (Variety, )
DVD Description
Krzysztof Kieslowski presents this initially comic yet ultimately moving drama about finding one’s calling in life. Filip Mosz (Jerzy Stuhr), a Polish factory worker, purchases an eight-millimeter movie camera to record his baby daughter's first few years of life. Looking for other things to do with his new toy, Filip makes a rather shoddy documentary about his workplace and then submits the film to a local festival. Surprisingly, his amateur movie garners an award, and this small taste of success sends Filip into a moviemaking frenzy. Committing himself to a new life as a documentary filmmaker, he shoots footage of nearly everything he encounters, but his zeal to record all that he sees soon runs him afoul of government officials who guard secrets they don't want revealed, in addition to his wife, who becomes fed up with his need to live life from behind the camera. In traditional Kieslowski fashion, his film works on many different levels, including the sociopolitical one that takes place in the factory. It is the personal commentary on filmmaking passion that provides the film with its core emotion, however. Stuhr’s Filip is a remarkable creation--a man who is at once inspiring, loving, and pathetic.
