Starring Helen Mirren, Annette Crosbie, Julie Walters, Celia Imrie etc etc, this film starred many of TV's top actresses and features members of a small WI group getting together to create a charity calendar with a difference!
This film attracted a number of good reviews when it came out a couple of years ago. I kept intending to watch it but never quite got round to it until recently. I have been wondering how to rate it. It is good in the sense that the actresses are spot on in their performances, the film looks good, the storyline is fairly believable (well it is a true story!), the nudity is not too over the top (!) etc. There is some good humour in it but along with this moments of gravity as well.
I am not sure quite why it didn't sit right with me. Maybe it's the general feeling they are making a Hollywood movie and lots of drama out of quite a quaint little story. This is an ideal thing to sit down and watch on a Sunday evening on the tele, but I wasn't sure it would have translated to a big screen all that well.
But that is a small gripe, and I could see why it has been so popular. It is well acted, quite witty in parts and looks lovely with all those Yorkshire village scenes. No violence, no naughty words and certainly no naughty action of any real description, so this would not appeal to all film fans! Watch it on DVD or when it comes on the tele, quietly on a Sunday night, and it will probably suit you fine.

This was a really enjoyable film, I watched it in a cinema packed with shall we say, 'ladies of a certain age', mostly from WI groups. You could add stacks more to this review, it starts really well. Please tell us more about the characters and the reason they got their kit off! If you do add to this review please let me know. jo
