Starring - Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Michael O'Keefe, Ted Knight, Bill Murray, Cindy Morgan and Sarah Holcomb.
Directed By - Harold Ramis
Produced By - Don Macdonald
First impressions - This film is about golf, plain and simple. Personally I am not a massive fan of this sport but this film makes it a lot more fun. The whole plot surrounds a young lad named Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) and the golf course president Judge Smails (Ted Knight). The characters are all played very well by the actors although Bill Murray has a relatively small part as the groundsman Carl Speckler.
Minor description of plot - The film starts at the house in which Danny Noonan lives with his family. He is a golf caddy at Bushwood golf course and has got his eyes set on going to college when he has saved up enough money. We then get introduced to Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) who you never really find much information about. All he seems to do is play golf at the course. The next character we see is Al Czervik, the hilarious property tycoon played by Rodney Dangerfield. He is into illegal betting on the golf course and when he bumps into Judge Smails on the golf course the results are among the funniest parts in the film. He basically bugs the life out of Smails resulting in Smails wanting him barred from Bushwood. When Danny hears that a caddy scholarship has become available he proceeds to start sucking up to Judge Smails. Smails tells him that if he is to have any chance in getting the scholarship, he will have to win the yearly caddy tournament. The results of this are very funny too. Also watch out for Danny's girlfriend Maggie (Sarah Holcomb) and Judge Smails niece Lacey Underall (Cindy Morgan). Danny ends up getting a bit close to her resulting in a great fall out between him and the judge.
Plus Points - This film really cheers you up. I was aching after laughing so much, it really is that funny. The characters are all played very well by the actors. Chevy Chase and Bill Murray stand out as the funniest although the unknown youngsters do make you laugh out loud too. Cindy Morgan is one of the sexiest women I have ever seen. Unfortunately I have hardly seen her since.
Minus Points - Bill Murray's lack of involvement in the film although the part he does play is played very well. The fact that it spawned a terrible sequel. Avoid it if you can, just stick with this film.
