...ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! My favourite drug based film. Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro are superb throughout. Truly is a psychedelic journey! Especially as this is based on a true story (R.I.P Hunter S Thompson) makes it the craziest 'trip' of a movie! Great directing Terry Gilliam, makes you not want to take your eyes of the craziness. The way the 'American Dream' unfolds with a lawyer and 'Thompson' on a road trip across West America to Vegas with a mind boggling amount and array of drugs. Travelling off their heads in a sweet convertible! Happy day's! Best to watch this film when your *mashed* if you know what I mean! But once is never enough! RECOMMEND! ...weilding a heavy knife. He convinces Thompson to stop covering the super bowl story and come with him to the hub of his revolution. They go to a cabin out in the forest and are about to smuggle weapons into Latin America by plane but Thompson gets left behind as a police helicopter arrives. The next we see of Thompson he's providing a guest lecture to some students and his infamous 'speech' is included in the film "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me" Then the film moves on and Hunter is covering the 72 election campaign of Nixon. He isn't allowed to stay on the plane with all the other journalists due to his odd behaviour; he takes out a hunting knife on the plane, cuts a grapfruit up, pours vodka into it and then drinks out of the fruit; he is then made to go on the plane... ...Hunter S. Thompson's book of the same name, and it's more or less a carbon copy adaption. It's the seventies, and gonzo journalist Thompson (Depp) has been hired to cover a desert motorbike race outside Las Vegas. His fat, equally twisted Samoan attorney (Del Toro) shoehorns his way into the trip, and they set off in search of the American Dream. With a trunkfull of every drug your parents ever took. The initial assignment descends into narcotic anarchy, however, and soon our man in Vegas is desperste to try and keep his grip on reality, never mind anything else... We're passengers on a surreal, scary, hilarious ride through hipocrites, bigots, insane policemen and worse. A stream of conciousness narrative, by the time the film finishes we're left feeling, like Thompson, drained and exhausted by such a sustained episode of narcotic abuse... Read review
