Main Cast:
Monk (Chow Yun Fat) Kar (Seann William Scott) Jade (Jaime King)
Plot summary:
Chow Yun Fat plays a monk selected to guard a mythical scroll that can give absolute power to anyone who reads from it aloud. His 60 year duty is up and he is in America avoiding the Nazi who has been chasing his for the full 60 years trying to get his hands on the scroll. He bumps into petty thief Kar (Seann William Scott) while running from said Nazi's henchmen, who promptly pickpockets him and makes off with the scroll. Through sheer perseverance they team up against the people who are after the monk, and Kar is found to be the next in line to guard the scroll.
My opinion:
Seann William Scott isn't exactly the first actor who springs to mind when I think of a film like this. In saying that I can't particularly fault him for his performance at all.
This film eventually bored me sadly. I was expecting so much after seeing it was a John Woo film. There was little or no real storyline apart from what I summarised above. It really could have been so much better.
Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of action, but far too much of it seemed contrived and well-trodden.
To be honest, I think John Woo did as much as he could with a poor script, but he still couldn't stop it becoming tedious and a little stupid.
