Well the monk may well have been bulletproof but the film certainly wasn't. I just about made it to the end (although I was third out of the door at the end) although I did sympathise with the three who couldn't go the distance and left two thirds of the way through.
The shame of it is that I really wanted to like this film but at the end of the day just do not feel able to recommend anyone seeing it. Some of the acting defied description - I mean Chow Yun-Fat is not exactly Lawrence Olivier but I think even he would appreciate that he could have done better with a feeble script.
The problem starts with the story which just seems to be a 'scribbled on a match box' plot. In a nutshell - 'Ageless mystical monk protects secret scroll from aging nazi in New York city while training young apprentice'. Nazi's and sacred artifacts may have worked in Indiana Jones but Chow is no Harrison and the tongue in cheek comic-book humour needed to pull it off is too often missing. Some bit's seem to have been thrown together in a contrived fashion just to fulfill the words of some prophecy which just became very tired.
Still not a total loss - most of the fight scenes were pretty well executed ala Crouching Tiger, some of the humour almost works and Jaime King is very watchable. Probably a DVD title rather than one for the theatres but could - just about - have been worse.

Advantages: funny, good martial arts, sexy women, great stunts and fights and doesn't take itself too seriously Disadvantages: tries too hard to be good, bit boring and pointless
