ok ok everyone get the idea that you need more info about the film so giving it another go! the film starts with Nazis trying to steal a sacred Tibetan scroll in 1943. This scroll if read out loud will give the reader infinite powers to take over the world. The scroll is guarded by one man for a period of sixty years and this guardian remains youthful during these years. Not to spoil the film but basically Chow-Yung-Fat takes over the guardianship of the scroll and escapes from the nazis with much bullet dodging and martial arts. Cut to pick-pocket Seann William Scott in 2003 and his meeting with Chow-Yung-Fat and their subsequent rocky relationship as Chow-Yung-Fat believes Scott is his successor due to very thin but funny prophecies about the next guardian. Here enters Jaime King (wow) as streetwise girl with mystery and a liking for Scott and fluent Tibetan! The film then revolves around the resurgence of the original Nazi thief and the trio's attempts to thwart the plot to take over the world and cleanse it from ethnicity. Much laughs and martial arts, slow motion bullets and wire work that's pretty cool, also for the blokes a serious fight between baddy girl Nazi and King. There are many moments of pure clever farce interspersed by serious moments questioning human atrocities. Clever film.
watching this film in the cinema is great but the action is so fast sometimes you long for the comfort of home and the DVD slow-mo button! but the interaction between characters is great to watch. The film is (hopefully) tongue-in-cheek as there are many many funny moments that seem all too surreal to be taken seriously. I will be buying this film on DVD the day it comes out. A definite to the collection and one to be watched many times with friends and family.
the fight scene with Mr F**tastic in the subway is sublimely genius in it's comedy. Cannot wait to see it again and the whole bullet-twisting-dodging thing is excellently done. The emphasis is not on the martial arts but more on the tradegy and comedy of the characters, it has to be seen to be appreciated. This is not your typical martial arts film and some people will be disappointed but as a fan myself i think it's the way forward. you watch the film and actually care for the characters. strange nowadays. enjoy...
