I am writing my review based on the film "Bugsy Malone", it is a fantastic child based gangster film with no adults in the film what so ever, it is all children, the shop keepers are children, the club bar staff and owner is a child, all the "Gangsters" are children. It is a brilliant film to watch, it was released back in 1976 which is older than me but is a classic, and it is a musical rather than film.
Basic Storyline
It is set in the 1930's, it is based on two rival "Top Gangsters" Fat Sam, who is quite a big boy and Dandy Dan who is well classy… Dandy Dan's men raid Fat Sam's business with guns (loaded with custard and cream instead of bullets) which actually kills of some of Fat Sam's men. Bugsy Malone which is the main character in this film is just a basic by stander, who is a boxing promoter who has not got a penny to his name! Fat Sam sees Bugsy and offers him the job of being his driver for a big operation that's about to take place, of course Bugsy accepts as his need for some money. But Bugsy has a love interest of his own, Blousy Brown
who wants to be a singer and wants to go to Hollywood, Bugsy promises to take Blousy to Hollywood with the money he earns from working for Fat Sam, but something happens which makes this not possible. But poor Blousy has other worries on her mind when she sees Bugsy flirting with Fat Sam's girlfriend Tallulah who is the lead singer at Fat Sam's club "Speakeasy"!! Blousy also gets a job there… It is a musical and contains the following songs - "My Name is Tallulah" - (which in my eyes is the main song and remains in your head compared to the other songs, it is sang by Tallulah herself) "Bugsy Malone" "Tomorrow" - (is the song sang by the cleaner who his dream is to be a dancer, the song is brilliant and catchy!) "Fat Sam's Grand Slam" "Bad Guys" "I'm feeling Fine" "So You Want to Be a Boxer" "That's Why They Call Me Dandy" "Down and Out" "Show Biz" "We Could Have Been Anything" "You Give A Little Love" "Ordinary Fool" (These are brilliant songs sang by the cast with lots of emotion especially the song "Tomorrow", the cast show lots of energy and enjoyment in the musical film)
The song "So You Want to Be a Boxer" has been used for promotions and for other songs, Dizzy Rascal's song "Wanna be" references to this song, also the song was used to promote Cheese strings back in 2005.

Bugsy Malone - Scott Biao Tallulah - Jodie Foster Fat Sam - John Cassisi Dandy Dan - Martin Lev Blousy Brown - Florrie Dugger
Favourite quotes
Bugsy Malone: Have you eaten? Blousey Brown: Ever since I was a kid. Bugsy Malone: Then how come you're so skinny, wisey? Blousey Brown: Because I watch my weight. Bugsy Malone: Yeah, I do that when I'm broke tooBugsy Malone: Me and Fat Sam, we're like this. (Bugsy crosses his fingers) Blousey Brown: You mean you're real good friends? Bugsy Malone: Nah, it's just that every time I see him, I cross my fingers, and hope he won't hit me
Other info
The film was written and directed by Alan Parker who also wrote and directed Angela's Ashes in 1999; Evita was also one of his in 1996, a long with some others. It is about an hour and half long which I think is really good for a musical like this. It is rated a PG so all the family can have a good watch, it is an old classic but very good and normally comes on around Christmas time. The musical has won 5 awards and has been nominated 9 times for awards…well done Bugsy Malone Crew!!
My Opinion
I love this film, it is one that you never get tired of watching and is great entertainment, I love the fact that it is all children playing the parts which is not seen now a days (except in the film Kidult), the characters are amazing, Jodie Foster who plays Tallulah has a very sexy side to her and is constantly flirting with Bugsy who interest lies elsewhere. The songs are brilliantly performed by the cast, which is really amazing, especially for young children. I think the guns are really funny, as they just spurt custard and creams, the rival scenes are funny when they are shooting each other with this custard and cream. The relationship with Blousy and Bugsy is really funny, as she is not interested at the beginning but then becomes jealous of her own rival Tallulah who is with Fat Sam and is the lead singer at the club something that Blousy wants to do herself. She shows so much determination, as Fat Sam keeps telling her to come back tomorrow, finally she gets the chance to sing and is hired, her character is kind of shy but at the time very bossy and hard. The casting team have done a fantastic job at casting these characters, I do not think that this film could ever be re-made to this standard, it is brilliant without a doubt, and your all probably bored of me saying its brilliant…well watch it and see it for yourselves and I'm sure you will agree with me! Bugsy Malone is a personally favourite of mine, I only watched it for the first time back in 2003 with my aunt who is adores the film and I got hooked on it. I would give this musical 10/10 for performance, songs, everything it is brilliant a must see. I would be very shocked if someone hasn't even seen or caught a glimsp of this film it is one of a kind. Nothing is dislikeable with this musical.

This has been posted in the category for the Blu-Ray DVD, but mentions nothing about the new Blu-Ray format. Given that this has been posted in this specialised category, I would like to know about the quality of the new format.

I HATE this with a passion.....find it so irritating!
Remember that scene in Jerry Maguire where the title character suddenly realises the ... more
foolhardiness of his impulsively written manifesto? That's how director Alan Parker (Mississippi Burning) ought to feel every day of his life since making this dopey, ...
