Buffy is outstanding TV and season 2 is no exception. From the rather odd sounding title you may get the impression that Buffy is all about the kill but its not, it has so many levels and is written by extraordinary writers who really personalise each character's vocabulary.
Overview for those of you unfortunate enough to not watched Buffy before.. Buffy is a high school student (season 1 -3) who finds out at the age of 14 that she is "The Chosen One, the one with the strength and the skill to hunt the vampires and stop their evil spread, she is The Slayer". In season 2 she is 16 years old and has a close, little, circle of friends who help her with the supernatural problems that arise and save the world. Though she accepts her calling she wants a life too and strives to do normal stuff like have fun and date.
Lots of new characters are introduced into season 2...
Spike: (James Masters) is a vampire, whose English accent could use a bit of work. It's interesting to see the life of a vampire as they are usually just used for showing off Buffy's fighting skills. Spike's "Sod 'em" attitude is amusing and unlike stereotypical villains his character is well rounded. His popularity led him on to be a regular, his character having a HUGE arc, right to the last ever Buffy episode, "Chosen", in season 7. Drusilla: Crazy vamp who Angelus and Spike fight over. Angelus: Buffy's Vampire With A Soul boyfriend now soulless. David Boreanaz has a great talent for playing evil and is seriously scary. Oz: (Seth Green) Willow's new boyfriend who is also a werewolf. He's a cool character; you can't help but like him. Some of the Buffy characters seem to like to hear themselves speak (*coughXandercough*) but Oz is really well written for and comes out with funny one-liners. Kendra: Another Slayer! Buffy is no longer The One And Only. Buffy can now consider giving up Slayage for a normal life which she so badly wants, but luckily for us she doesn't. Also, her teeming up with Spike in "Becoming" is hilarious, especially when he is sitting in her living room with her mother.
Cordelia also needs a mention, she can be so shallow and mean, but what a character! Very funny.
Overall this season is definitely a big blending pot for the supernatural AND the more natural side of it with all the loves and losses. I really enjoy watching it, mainly the What's My Line Parts 1+ 2 and Becoming Parts 1+2. It's nice to see all the normal, hilarious, school stuff, Buffy being grounded and the characters interacting as well as the well choreographed fight scenes.
The only thing I would say about the fight scenes is that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) doesn't do everything and you sometimes get glimpses of the profile of another women's face. The stunt women/martial artist is excellent which makes the glitches worth it. Unless you're a die-hard Buffy fan you probably won't notice, I didn't until I had watched all seven seasons numerous times.
If you buy this your likely to want buy the other 6 seasons. Season 2 is real classic Buffy and each season is closed as if it were the last ever episode so you always get a brilliant season ending.
