I had been waiting for this box set for a very long time and I am now pleased to say that it has been well worth the wait.
To properly explain the idea behind Buffy would take a long time, needless to say it's about a girl (Buffy Summers) who finds out she has a destiny to slay vampires and other nasty demons and generally keep the world safe. Unfortunately, she is at first reluctant to take up the mantle of The Slayer, but is talked into it by her 'watcher' (and school librarian) Rupert Giles. Just as well, because she finds out that her new town, Sunnydale, is at the mouth of hell and happens to be the focus point of a lot of demon activity! Together with a band of freinds she takes on the forces of evil each week.
The box itself folds out in to the shape of a cross to uncover 3 DVDs and a nice booklet with lots of information on each episode of the first season. It really is well presented and sits nicely on a display shelf with all your other box sets. It looks like this is set to continue with the next set as well.
The stories in the first series are very strong, even though the characters are just being introduced to the audience. There is a nice mix of character based and action based storylines which often flow into the next story or continue into later seasons. It's good to see some of the defining moments in the Buffy Saga too, Angel's background is particularly interesting.
The sound is perfect with a nice audio set up and will even make you jump from time to time when someone creeps up behind Buffy or another character, picture is also of a very high quality, as you would expect from a series this new.
Extras form some interesting (but brief) interviews and the Hepburn video to 'I Quit' featuring the girls dressed up as vampires. Fine if you like that sort of thing! There is a nice photo gallery as well and a very nicely written booklet to accompany the series.
If you enjoyed the series on BBC or Sky, buy the DVDs to experience it in a whole new light, it's well worth the asking price and highly recommended.

Good op, though I'm not quite sure why Ciao have it stuck over here in a corner, and not woth the rest of the season 1 dvd reviews. You might want to ask them to move it

A very detailed and useful review. However, some background knowledge about the show might be good for non-fans.
Advantages: Adventure, great story line that follows on through out all the series, is very funny in majority of parts (especially when spike arrives) and also has tragedy and romance for all you hopeless lovers out there :-) Disadvantages: Only that Angel leaves and makes his own series which i dont really like :-(
Advantages: The most innovative, entertaining, thought-provoking show on television, all in the same box. Like having a novel playing before you... Disadvantages: Not as good as Buffy gets, but a vital introduction...
