Originally I owned Buffy seasons 2-7 in the bible packaging that they used before this cheaper one, however, since the Season one DVD in the older packaging was made quite some time ago, it was hard to find one in good condition (being a product perfectionist) so I decided to buy this packaging instead, they've done quite a good job with it too, it could have been horrendous, but it all blends well due to great colours. I suppose the plastic flippy inside could have been better, it feels like its going to disintegrate any second :(
Anyway, thats enough about the shallow outarrds, lets get to the juicy innards. Well, to many they aren't juicy, because this is considered amongst the fanbase as the worst season. Personally, I like it, sure it seems pretty cheap and the stories are a bit wacky, a demon hunter puppet and Willow dating a robot for example.......but it certainly has a cheesy 90's charm. The underscoring (background music) is different to all the other seasons, obviously as the composer left following this season, and people don't seem to like the music, but I do, all of it has a very dreamlike quality and it really brings atmosphere to the scenes......
The actual episodes themselves are varied, the ones I consider bad or just average are......
Teachers Pet: It's not particularly awful, but it is pretty bad. The episode revolves around Xander having a crush on his sustitute biology teacher, who, it turns out is a praying mantis! Yeah, its all a bit insane. But Buffy dragging a metal clawed vampire out of the sewers so he can give directions to the mantis' house is quite amusing....
The Puppet Show: Yes, another insane on in which a human is resurrected as a carnival puppet in order to get revenge on the 9 demons who killed him......Cough, cough. Its not all bad though, the scene with the demon locking Giles in on of those head chopper offers is actually quite tense.
Nightmares: The scoobies nightmares come true, interesting premise, but the dreams are bit too choppy, and really, apart from Xander going to school and finding himself naked, I don't think many can relate to them.....LOVE Willow being forced to sing opera on stage though
There is only one really great episode in this season IMO, and that is the season finale, 'Prophecy Girl'. It is an emotional rollercoaster of an episode and features the big battle with the grand, but slightly cliche villain "The master"
The extra's on this DVD are decent enough I suppose, though the only thing I found of interest was the music video set on the .....sets of Buffy and the Pilot episode script, still the actual pilot would have been better!!!
If you are a Buffy fan, you MUST buy this, the collection won't be complete without it, and if you aren't and want to get into Buffy......you probably should start on a later season first, because its unlikely this'll draw you in........ ....

I'd prefer a little more info on the other episodes of the season, and some of your opinion on the cast; but that aside this is a decent, solid review. Can't agree with you regarding "The Puppet Show" - I like that one! Is the episode with Willow falling in love with a robot during this series? That's the worst episode, if it is!
