DVD Description
Recorded live at Linz's Stiftsbasilika St. Florian on 12-13th September 2006 - the place of Bruckner's burial and where he served as a chorister, teacher and organist.
Advantages: Fascinating insight into a very private conductor Disadvantages: One always wants more concert clips in DVDs like this...
...and colleagues, and of course from Abbado himself - which is perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the DVD as up to now he has always preferred to talk through his music rather than to journalists.
The orchestras featured in the performance extracts are the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.
Performance and rehearsal extracts played during the DVD are by: Luigi Nono - "Prometeo"; Dvorak - Symphony No. 9; Beethoven - Symphonies No. 1, 3 and 9, Egmont Overture; Bruckner - Symphonies No. 1 and 9; Stravinsky - Symphony of Psalms; Brahms - "Ein deutsches Requiem"; Richard Strauss - "Elektra"; Webern - 6 Pieces for Orchestra; Mahler - Symphony No. 2; Debussy - La Mer and Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 5. Advantages: Metallica and a symphony... How cool is that?! Disadvantages: none at all
...in my opinion 5/5.
05. The Thing That Should Not Be - as with "Of Wolf And Man," the symphony adds so much to this song. A very good rendition of it 5/5.
06. Fuel - not the better sounding song on the CD, but very great coming live with the symphony5/5.
07. The Memory Remains - a good song from the Re-Load album. Not one of the better songs on the DVD, and probably could have added a different song to the set list 3/5.
08. No Leaf Clover - the first out of two new songs done by Metallica and the symphony. This song is great, but a little wobbly. Very interesting to listen to the first couple of times 5/5.
09. Hero Of The Day - a good song, and good with the symphony. Not my favorite solo in the world done by Metallica, but good to listen to 4/5.
10. Devil's Dance - this one expresses more-so to the symphony's sound, and they do a great job 5/5...

I sincerely hope I have managed to talk you out of wasting an hour and a half of your precious life, there truly is nothing good about this movie except when it ends and even then you are left scratching your head!
I hope you have enjoyed this little review although even if you have not, you will still get much more enjoyment from reading it again than you will ever get from watching the movie it is written on!...
