Advantages: BRILLIANT ENTERTAINMENT ! Disadvantages: YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN?
...Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen, born 1949 aka 'The Boss' - is an American singer/songwriter, guitar, keyboard and harmonica player, and an entertainer, this is a review of the DVD of the Complete Video Anthology 1978- 2000.
Having owned the original video of the Anthology 1978-1988, and enjoyed it for many years, I now have it on DVD along with the extra DVD featuring 15 bonus tracks, bringing in more recent material. This brings the dates of his videos up to the year 2000. As a DVD there is no beginning, middle and end, therefore I am reviewing it as a DVD of music and video complete.
BACKGROUND:
Bearing in mind the time span of this DVD (22 years), it has to be mentioned that if you are not already a fan of BruceSpringsteen, you may not appreciate the early content, as the quality is not of such a high quality as more...

...With BruceSpringsteen being on of the greatest rockers still around this DVD is well worth a look. It consists of 24 songs from Springsteens vast career, but 7 of the tracks do come from the 2003 album 'The Rising'. Which considering this DVD was recorded a year later you would expect that the recent material he has released to be encluded.
The best bits of the album have to be songs such as 'Dancin' in the Dark' and the version that is used here shows how the song can be transformed into an amazing live rock and roll number.
And other tracks that jump to mind are 'Spirit in the night' and 'incident on 57th street.' Both are early Springsteen tracks but both memerable as Bruce sits down with his piano and plays them. This shows how the boss hasnt lost any of it over all those year.
This DVD is well recommended if you like Bruce...

Advantages: Funny, witty and wellacted Disadvantages: Not too many surprises if you have read the book
...Having read the book and found the heros attempts at comming to terms with middle age and comittment mildly amusing but little else I was not expecting much from the film. I was very wrong. Transferring the story from London to Chicago worked well and the actors were absolutely fabulous. John Cusack especially was so right for the part, I could not imagine anybody striking the balance better between being infuriating, likeable and realistic. The story is very funny in parts and cameo appearances from Lisa Bonnet and BruceSpringsteen add quality. It could have been very easily clicheed but it turned out to be very enjoyable....
