Advantages: Great family movie, exciting, funny, thoughtful. Disadvantages: Maybe a tad too traditional Disney?
...out of my mouth!
Brother Bear starts off being about three brothers. The time and place are deliberately left obscure but based on the Canadian accents of the moose, the landscape, and the ethnic background of the Native North American Indians, it would appear to be in Canada, long ago in a much simpler time (mammoths still exist) but don't quote me on this. The eldest brother, Sitka, obviously tires of keeping the younger siblings in check as their ... ..."love". The snickering of his brother doesn't help. His totem is a bear; a small wood carving of the animal is given to him as a reminder.
Already in a bad mood, when he realises that he hasn't tied up the fish properly and some animal has been able to eat them all as well as stealing Denahi's basket, he goes off in a huff, determined to catch the culprit. He climbs the mountain in chase of what he finds out to be a fierce-looking bear and in a ...

Advantages: Lovely well written story of love and loyalty Disadvantages: None
Brother Bear is a new Film from Disney Films. I have noticed it being advertised on trailers before other films since about July. The trailer showed what appeared to be a bear and some adventures he had. It didn't give away any of the story, and all I could figure was that the bear had originally been a man and that he had transformed.
A few weeks back, I received an e-mail from the McDonalds club, saying that they were doing a preview of the film ... ...are Native American. The youngest Brother Kenai (I kept thinking of K9 when I heard his name) and he is the one whom the story focuses on. He is to receive his Totem in his ceremony which makes him become a man. The oldest Brother Sitka is the one who sort of keeps the peace between the youngest 2! Denahi is the middle brother and he is always fighting with the younger one. There are hints of bears not being liked by them. Kenai is asked to tie up ...

...loved animated films and having Brother Bear was no exception. It holds a slightly more special place in my heart as it was one of the first films my girlfriend and I ever saw in the Cinema together - hence when I was quick to get a copy when it came out on DVD.
As is the case with Disney animations it has a very traditional, classy animations and this is no different. The film is set in a time log past and focuses on a traditional Red Indian family, ... ...fish that he and his brother had caught had been eaten by a bear (although this was due to the fact the Kenai hadn't tied basket containing the fish up properly !). In an attempt to try and prove himself he, against his 2 brothers advice goes after the bear, of course his brothers follow. Kenai does find the bear but it is larger than he expected and too big to handle. Sitka has to step into to save his little brother, but this heroic act costs him ...

Advantages: typical disney, great everything. Disadvantages: bit slow to start
...The story follows the youngest brother who gets given the totem 'bear of love'. It has a fairly slow start, but again if you re-watch it; it makes a lot more sense second time round when you know what's coming on later. First time around you kind of wonder what it's all about and when the real story will start.
The story:
The oldest brother Sitka gets tragically killed by a bear. Feeling guilty that he was partly responsible the youngest Kenai ... ...touch the mountains. The third brother thinks that Kenai is dead and his new bear form is actually the bear that killed him. He starts to track the pair. The two set off on their own personal quests, an unlikely pair, and along there way become the best of friends. It's a race against time to get to his brothers spirit so he can be turned back into a human before Denahi catches up with him.
Along the way they meet two moose, Rutt and Tuke, brothers ...

DVD Description
In Walt Disney Pictures' animated feature BROTHER BEAR beautiful animation of the Pacific Northwest depicts wonderfully intimidating snowcapped mountains and glaciers, beautiful springtime forest scenes, rivers full of leaping salmon, and lots of interesting wildlife--from tiny squirrels and chipmunks to giant wooly mammoths. The colours and movement of the film are dazzling and dreamlike, while the upbeat musical score includes songs by Phil Collins and Tina Turner. The story carries messages about the power of friendship and community, the difficulty of losing a loved one, and the highs and lows of growing up. Kenai (Joaquin Phoenix) is a boy who longs to become a man but must learn a valuable lesson before he can achieve the maturity it requires. At a tribal ceremony the spirits give him the symbol of the bear, which stands for love. Then, through a series of events, he is transformed into a bear. Kenai must brave the wild, with only a little bear-cub brother, Koda (Jeremy Suarez), to guide him. In their travels, Kenai and Koda meet a couple of hilarious moose (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) who provide comic relief to this otherwise heart-rending family tale.
