British Sportscars - Track Day Revolution DVD

Advantages: Length, good footage captured, great for those who were there
Disadvantages: Added on commentary always annoys!

...They say you either love it or hate it. Le Mans, that is. Well I was there in June 2005, watching this race. I was also there in June 2004, and June 2003, and...... OK, OK, so I'm a Le Mans nut. 2005 was my 20th consecutive visit to Le Mans - every year since 1986. And I run my own website for my photos too.... And I moderate a sportscar website.... So, I guess I have reasonable credentials for reviewing the DVD. The annual Le Mans highlights/review DVD was maded by Duke Marketing, a famous purveyor of motor racing (and other) videos and DVDs. The DVD has an excellent running time of 135 minutes, not quite up to the 24 hours itself, but it covers the full event, from the technical scrutineering of the cars and driver (!) which takes place during the week before the race, through... Advantages: Good fight scenes
Disadvantages: Boring, messy, cheesy

...The Patriot I don't know why Mr Gibson decided to do this, when you've acted and directed in an award winning war film about beating up the English why would you want to star in another one directed by the blokes who did Godzilla? The film is set at the beginning of the American Revolution (when the Americans decided they didn't won't to be ruled by the British anymore) Mel plays Benjamin Martin, a former war hero trying to bring up his seven children on his own after the death of his wife some years before. He wants no part in the war against the British and isn't happy when his oldest son, Gabriel (Heath Ledger) enlists to fight the dastardly British. Unsurprisingly, Mel doesn't stay out of the conflict long when Gabriel comes home injured, the Brits turn up and one of his sons gets killed. Mel goes on the rampage in a very brutal... Read review

Advantages: Mel Gibson (he's a class act)
Disadvantages: A bit long and drawn out

...as the new heart throb from “down under”, in the same style as Gibson himself. They make a terrific double act, doing their bit against the dastardly British Redcoats. The director, Roland Emmerich, (the man behind Godzilla and Independence Day) has great fun with the battle scenes which are visually outstanding. The Patriot is a long movie at 164 minutes, but the events are teased out with great timing, especially the war of wills between Gibson and nasty British officer Jason Issacs. “Before this war is over,” says Gibson through gritted teeth; “I’m going to kill you.” “Why wait?” retorts Issacs, and the fun and games begin. The Patriot is quite a violent movie, but it has tremendous appeal to all tastes, due mainly to the undoubted star quality and acting of Mel Gibson.... Read review
