...of aging people (myself included!) who can recall travelling by steam train (and can also recall mum, with moistened handkerchief corner, fishing a smut from the smoke out of your eye!)
But, as a result of their sterling efforts, these steam trains were recorded for posterity, merely going about their everyday business of moving people and hauling goods.
There is a very good spread of railway sites and sights, from the Somerset and Dorset line to Scotland (the Waverley route) from Bournemouth to the South East of England, from the North East (when coal really was king!) the North West of England and the run from Worcester to Paddington. And the East Coast mainline, looking at Kings Cross and Knebworth stations. All are shown in loving detail. (As they say!)
As is only to be expected, the quality of some of the footage is variable, although...

Advantages: Original unseen footage Disadvantages: Poor quality production
...are the Bullied Battle of Britain class locomotive, 602 Squadron, some ex-LMS tank locomotives, are seen, moved to BR Southern region, as is the Nine Elms Engine Sheds, filmed from the window of a passing train. There's also footage of a minor derailment, just outside Waterloo Station, complete with heavy-duty rail crane helping to sort out the mess.
It was interesting to see the old Lion on the wheel BritishRail logo, so much better than the weedy (and very expensive!) dual arrows which some unkind people suggested meant Britishrail really didn't have a clue in which direction it was going in!
The first part features footage taken at Birmingham New Street Station, the Westcoast Mainline and other varied and mixed locations.
Part two is a little different as it concentrates on the Midland Mainline (that's Wellingborough in the East Midlands...

Advantages: A cult classic Disadvantages: Poor quality extra scenes
...Back in 1973 director Robin Hardy brought us one of the most terrifying films ever to be made. As the year 2002 came by, Warner Bros decided to release this 2 disc DVD with both original theatrical version and the director's cut.
Being of a completely different generation i had never heard of this film until my parents of all people mentioned it.
I was intrigued by what they were saying but simply could not beleive that a british film with such a small budget could result in what they claimed to be a scary film.
I thought i'd buy it none the less and was outstanded when i watched it.
It is terrifying in a way that i had never seen before, no SFX, no gore and no real violence to speak of.
Instead we are witnes to the true meaning of confusion and loneliness.
