comedy as Walter Eckland, a grouchy civilian beachcomber in the South Pacific. Eckland is tricked into duty during WWII and abandoned on an isolated island to report enemy ship and plane movements to Allied reconnaissance. His solitude is interrupted by a distress call from another station, where he discovers seven young schoolgirls and their attractive headmistress, played by the gorgeous Leslie Caron. When they return to the island and try to share his already cramped living quarters, the battle of the sexes that ensues is as explosive as the real war that surrounds them! Trevor Howard also stars as Frank Houghton, an Australian Naval Officer. Father Goose won an Academy Award in 1964 for Best Story and Screenplay, and is beautifully shot by Oscar winning cinematographer Charles Lang Junior.Bringing Up Baby:A dog belonging to an eccentric heiress (Katharine Hepburn) steals a dinosaur bone from David (Cary Grant), a Zoology professor. David follows the heiress home and all hell breaks loose when he loses his pet leopard Baby. Brilliantly directed by Howard Hawks, Grant and Hepburn are a match made in heaven. Bringing Up Baby is one of cinema's greatest screwball comedies ever made.

On another rewatching of Howard Hawks' classic comedy Bringing Up Baby, I was reminded yet again of exactly why I love this film so much. Starring Cary Grant as bumbling palaeontologist Dr David Huxley and Katherine Hepburn as Susan Vance, who he bumps into one day and then ruins… er, changes, his life forever, it also has the massive advantage of starring a leopard. (Actually the humans are just there to make up the numbers, the leopard - "Baby" - is the real star of the show.)
To begin with I guess I should point out that this is a very daft film - you probably have to be in the right frame of mind to begin with to really enjoy it. That said I've never watched it without enjoying it immensely. Made in 1938, like many films from that era the dialogue is extremely funny at times . (I often tend to find that as special effects get better, dialogue gets worse.) Don't look for much believability in the situations as you won't find it; Bringing Up Baby is pure escapist entertainment.
Dr Huxley is about to get married - he may be relatively happy about that or he may not, it's purely a marriage of convenience with his work the main priority. His work for the last 4 years has been compiling a skeleton of a brontosaurus, and just one bone is missing - the intercostals clavicle. (When this is found the excitement almost causes him to forget all about his wedding - the following day!) In the meantime he has to play golf with a lawyer named Peabody in order to convince him to advise his client to donate a million pounds to the museum. It is during this game of golf that he comes across Susan Vance.
Without revealing too much else of the plot, Susan ends up conniving to spend a lot of time with him. Amongst this a leopard turns up, apparently for Susan - which, of course, means that David has a lot to do with this leopard (Baby) as well. Baby is quite a placid leopard, but naturally things don't go smoothly the whole way along. He also has a musical ear and particularly likes a particular song…
Cary Grant plays the bumbling doctor down to a tee, his look of perpetual bewilderment is totally convincing though he does occasionally become more assertive in extreme circumstances. Katherine Hepburn plays one of those exasperating female characters that can so easily be annoying rather than endearing or funny, but fortunately in this film the scale is pushed heavily in the direction of funny. There are several supporting cast members who add considerably to the laugh count, including Charles Ruggles as a big game hunter and Walter Catlett as a police constable who hasn't so much lost the plot as never had it in the first place. Then of course there's Asta, who plays George the dog (a very important part in the movie), and Nissa in his (or her?) only film role as Baby. It's very well filmed for the time, funny throughout, and has a jolly musical score. What more could you really want?
Overall Bringing Up Baby is a true classic that has been voted as 24th Greatest Film of All Time in Entertainment Weekly, and is currently ranked 221 in the International Movie Database Top 250 films of all time. The only reason I can think of for anyone not enjoying it is if they take it too seriously, or if they dislike films simply for being made in black and white (I kid ye not, I do know people like that!!) And, assuming your kids aren't among those black and white film haters, children of any age can watch this and enjoy it without parents worrying about any objectionable content. Very highly recommended, but don't try to take it seriously!!
Quotes -----------
*David Huxley on Susan*
"Now it isn't that I don't like you, Susan, because, after all, in moments of quiet, I'm strangely drawn toward you, but - well, there haven't been any quiet moments."
----------------------
*The truth hurts…*
Susan Vance: Anyway, David, when they find out who we are they'll let us out. David Huxley: When they find out who *you* are they'll pad the cell.
----------------------
*Meeting the parents*
Mrs. Random: Well, you look perfectly idiotic in those clothes. David Huxley: These aren't my clothes. Mrs. Random: Well, where are your clothes? David Huxley: I've lost my clothes! Mrs. Random: But why are you wearing *these* clothes? David Huxley: Because I just went gay all of a sudden!
(The above line is probably the only part of the film that anyone could possibly object to!!)
----------------------
*It's funny because it's true…*
"When a man is wrestling a leopard in the middle of a pond, he's in no position to run."
Advantages: HILARIOUS IN MANY PARTS YOU CAN WATCH IT MANY TIMES OVER. Disadvantages: none.
BRINGING UP BABY is a great film, exremely funny, witty, and the acting is good as well.
The stars of the film are CARY GRANT AND KATHERINE HEPBURN,he(cary grant)works in a museum putting to-gether dinosaurs skeletons,(he is always working on one.)
She is a scatterbrained millionairess, CARY GRANT is quite poor and is always looking for money to fund the museum,he has been promised quite a lot of money from KATHRINE HEPBURNS aunt, in the meantime ... ......namely a leopard called BABY...
there are so many twists and turns in this story thats its hard to put it all down or I would be writing a script lol..
but the gist of it is that CARY GRANT has been sent a very important bone from a skeleton of a dinosaur, he has waited years for this bone and now it has arrived some how KATHRINE HEPBURNS dog got hold of it and has buried it in her aunts garden.
They have to find it, without the aunt finding ...

Advantages: Excellent cast, script and plot. Disadvantages: None that really matter in the grand scheme of things.
...If you've never seen Bringing Up Baby it's likely I've just confused you no end. And possibly scared you. But those who have seen this inimitable 1938 gem and treasure it know that it is literally full of quotable lines and pricelessly hilarious scenes, and will presumably forgive me the indulgence of utilising a couple of favourites for the purposes of this review.
Quite simply this is a timeless screwball classic which zips along merrily and never ... ...Both leads give excellent performaces. Cary Grant plays the put-upon bewildered professor with just the right balance between stoicism and exasperation. Katharine Hepburn is the fast-talking, cheerfully eccentric society girl who collides into all his carefully laid plans.
Personally I find enjoyment in the knowledge that Cary Grant was reputedly petrified of the leopard- watch for the expression of speculative worry in his eyes whenever it comes ...

Advantages: Grant and Hepburn perform majestically Disadvantages: Bit too much slapstick
Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant star in this comedy. David Huxley (Grant) is a paleontologist who needs to finish an exhibit on dinosaurs and thus land a $1 million grant for his museum. On the golf course where trying to persuade a possible benefactor he bumps into Susan Vance (Hepburn) and a series of crazy events ensue as she tries to make him hers including baby leopards, rampant dogs, a dinosaur bone, cross dressing, jail.. the list goes on. ... ...was directed superbly by Howard Hawks. it is fast paced and quirky throughout never letting up or offering a breather. Some of the set pieces are frankly hysterical. Grant and Hepburn are sensational. Both are perfectly pitched with the physical comedy elements (of which there are many) and the dialogue between the two sizzles. Special mention must go to the leopard who performs wonderfully throughout. The only downside and what may alienate some ...

A few years ago my husband had a play station game called Silent Hill. He loved the game and I watched him play and complete all three of the Silent Hill games. All the while I was thinking, this is the sickest game I have ever seen and who ever thought it up should be locked up. Then they made it a film.
This is with out a doubt the weirdest, sickest, goriest film I have ever seen.
I wont mention the game again as the film is quite different and this is a DVD review.

DVD Description
A nonstop profusion of hilarious calamities, coincidences, and misunderstandings ensue when an accident-prone heiress turns a sheltered scientist's life upside down. Dr. David Huxley (Cary Grant) is a straitlaced palaeontologist juggling three important events at once: the arrival of an extremely rare bone needed to complete his brontosaurus skeleton; a meeting to ask for a million dollars for his museum from a wealthy donor; and his impending marriage to the humourless Miss Swallow (Virginia Walker). Into David's life comes Susan (Katharine Hepburn), a free-spirited young woman who seems to bring trouble wherever she goes. Thanks to Susan, David finds himself involved in one ridiculous situation after another, and soon the two are prowling around a country estate looking for the missing dinosaur bone, hunting for a lost pet leopard named Baby, and somehow falling in love. Grant and Hepburn form a sharp-witted and hysterical comic duo, and Howard Hawks directs BRINGING UP BABY with the control of a master, creating a shining example of brilliant screwball comedy.
