DVD Description
This taut, well-made thriller tells the story of a strange young man who befriends a middle-aged couple and tends for their crippled daughter. Adapted from Dennis Potter's play, BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE was a Grand Prize winner at the Montreal Film Festival
Advantages: Good Family, Children or just Adults film Disadvantages: Having to watch Shrek pull a chuhk of wax out of his ear
...The film starts off with your typical Prince Charming, Sleeping Beauty rescue, but the only thing that Shrek (Mike Myers) thinks the book is any good for is toilet paper, that is until he starts on his own adventure with Eddie Murphy's talking (& singing) donkey. They have to find the princess (Cameron Diaz) and rescue her from the fire breathing dragon! Meanwhile John Lithgow as Lord Farquad steals the show with what can only be described as a short but snappy role!!! Watch out for all of the other fairy tale characters and nursery rhymes that are hidden within. What with belching contests, jokes about brimstone and onions layers (whew what a combination), Shrek is the kind of film that you can watch over and over again and still find something that you missed the first time around. I thoroughly enjoyed the Karaoke Swamp Party...

Advantages: Excellent picture and sound quality. Loadsa extras Disadvantages: Very slow menus.
...Firstly, let me say that navigating through the menus on this disc is like wading through treacle. Everythings nicely presented and the extras are worth the wait...but man is it slow!
I'm talking about the two disc collectors edition here and do not hesitate in saying that you get your moneys worth. OK, so the movie isn't the best in the world, but it's still highly enjoyable and the animation is simply spot on.
Highlights of the movie? The egg travels and the meteor shower. And that little spikey dinosaur that carries a stick in its mouth.
Sound and picture quality are perfect throughout. I saw this at the cinema and remember thinking that the DVD was going to be something special. I for one, was not disappointed and still think this is one of the better discs on the shelf.
The soundtrack is also pretty awesome...turn it up loud...
