Two New York Business men are on a relaxing holiday in the Glens of Scotland, Played by Gene Kelly and Van Johnson. While out for a spot of shooting, they become lost, tired and hungry. In an opening in the trees they see, a small village in the mist, thinking they may get directions and something to eat, they cross a small river bridge, to reach the town, with out knowing, they've crossed into a time lapse over the Bridge of the river Doon (Brigadoon). The Village has a curse upon it, that for every night they sleep, the following day will be a hundred years later, and if any of its original inhabitants leave the town, they will sleep that night and never wake again. The two Americans of course know nothing of the curse or the village's history, which is a closely guarded secret by the villagers. Gene Kelly however after meeting the towns folk, is soon taken in by the magic of the place and falls for a local lass, played by the beautiful Cyd Charisse. She in return falls for Gene, but knows this can never be, or can it? Will love lift the curse? Will he leave his sweetheart behind and return to America? Watch and see.
Some great Scottish Bagpipe and Band music, at the scene of a villagers wedding, as well as Gene at his best with his singing and dancing ability.
Two of the most famous songs being 'The Heather on the Hill' and 'Almost like being in Love'.
Dancing, singing, love, happiness and sadness with a touch of drama and timeless magic, what more can you ask from a film.
I remember this film, watching it with my Mother when I was a child, and I loved every minute of it, and was over the moon when my husband had brought me the Dvd for Christmas. But it certainly isn't one for the younger generation, as my kids expressed, god its" boring" and of they went to play on their ps2's.
