In the screen adaptation of BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, Helen Fielding's international best-selling phenomenon, documentary filmmaker (and real-life inspiration for the character...
more...Shazzer) Sharon Maguire has managed a rare feat - a film as captivating as the novel. Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) is a pretty and neurotic thirtysomething singleton (in her vernacular) who vows to take control of her life after being humiliated by handsome, standoffish barrister, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) at her parents' New Year's party. Determined to lose weight and cut back on vices like wine, cigarettes, and workaholic-alcoholic-misogynistic men, Bridget begins a diary to chart her progress. Unfortunately, the P.R. executive hits a snag when her boss, gorgeous cad Daniel (Hugh Grant) instigates a sexy e-mail flirtation. Despite her tendency to bungle book launch parties, and any situation involving the ever-present, ever-disapproving Mark Darcy, Bridget's winning combination of charm, vulnerability, and wit intrigues not only the seductively dangerous Daniel, but also the arrogant barrister. Featuring a note-perfect performance by Zellweger, a devilishly against-type one by Grant, and the inspired casting of Firth (the object of Bridget's lusty fantasies in the book); DIARY is a clever, delightful romantic comedy guaranteed to please old fans and win new ones.

Bridget Jones Diary was a film that everyone was talking about a few years ago. I couldn't wait to see it. I first went to see it at the cinema when it first came out and laughed almost all the way through, it was very funny. I waited patiently for the film to be released on video or DVD to buy, and when it was it became my very first DVD.

This is a film based on the best selling book by Helen Fielding. It is made by the makers of Nottinghill and four weddings and a funeral.A romantic comedy. It tells the story of Bridget Jones. She is 30 something and single. She is always falling for the wrong men and one new year she decides to start a diary and make some new years resolutions to find herself a good man and to lose some weight. Her mum tries to match make and set her up with a boring looking lawyer wearing a reindeer jumper called Mark Darcy.

Bridget Jones works in a publishing office and starts flirting with her boss Daniel Cleaver using email. She and her boss start dating and they keep bumping into Mark Darcy who used to be Daniels best friend.

The story is very funny. One scene that is very funny is when Daniel discovers that Bridget is wearing very big pants, and another funny part is when she slides down a firemans pole, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it so I will let you see for yourself.

The film has a very good cast including,
Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones
Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver
Colin Firth as Mark Darcy

The DVD is in wide screen. The quality of it is ok, but half way through the film the sound and the pictures don't seem to match. The mouths seem to move but the talking is a second or two behind which can be quite annoying when trying to watch the film. I am not sure if it that I have got a faulty copy or if it the same on others as well.

The film has a great sound track which includes Robbie Williams singing Have you met miss Jones and its raining men by Geri Halliwell, this scene shows Daniel and Mark having a fight in the street, they go into a greek restaurant fighting, but both stop to join in chorus of Happy Birthday before continueing their fight when they go flying through the restaurant window. It is a very funny scene watching two posh blokes trying to fight.

This DVD is available in most music shops and supermarkets for around £16.99, but if you shop around you might find it cheaper.

The running time of the film is approximately 93 minutes and the film is given a 15 rating.

The DVD also contains special features which last about 45 minutes. There are subtitles which are available to watch during the film. There is a directors commentary by Sharon Maguire, a behind the scenes featurette which has interviews with the writer Helen Fielding, the director Sharon Maguire and interviews with some of the actors and actresses including Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, they also show some behind the scenes footage and some deleted scenes, some of these are very funny. The DVD also contains 2 music videos, one of these is out of reach by Gabrielle.

This is a film that you will either love or hate. I love it and will watch it many more times.

I have read some reports in newspapers that they are going to make a second movie, I can't wait for that if the rumours are true. Until then I will just have to watch this a few more times.
