In the screen adaptation of BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, Helen Fielding's international best-selling phenomenon, documentary filmmaker (and real-life inspiration for the character...
more...Shazzer) Sharon Maguire has managed a rare feat - a film as captivating as the novel. Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) is a pretty and neurotic thirtysomething singleton (in her vernacular) who vows to take control of her life after being humiliated by handsome, standoffish barrister, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) at her parents' New Year's party. Determined to lose weight and cut back on vices like wine, cigarettes, and workaholic-alcoholic-misogynistic men, Bridget begins a diary to chart her progress. Unfortunately, the P.R. executive hits a snag when her boss, gorgeous cad Daniel (Hugh Grant) instigates a sexy e-mail flirtation. Despite her tendency to bungle book launch parties, and any situation involving the ever-present, ever-disapproving Mark Darcy, Bridget's winning combination of charm, vulnerability, and wit intrigues not only the seductively dangerous Daniel, but also the arrogant barrister. Featuring a note-perfect performance by Zellweger, a devilishly against-type one by Grant, and the inspired casting of Firth (the object of Bridget's lusty fantasies in the book); DIARY is a clever, delightful romantic comedy guaranteed to please old fans and win new ones.

I personally think this film is as good as they all say it is!

If you dont already know what this film is about, then firstly I want to say:

"Where the heck have you been for the past few months?!?!"

Incase you don't (say for example you've been camping in a remote part of the Outback?) i'll give you a brief run-down on the story line!

Renee Zellweger (aka Bridget Jones) plays the part of an English thirtysomething year old office type lady, come singleton diarist who is looking for her ideal man. That is basically ya lot! Sounds pretty boring right!? Well your wrong!!
It amazed me just how much there was to the story line considering what ive just told you there is basically the entire plot! Considering its a 96 minute film!

Basically it starts off with Bridget attending her mothers "turkey curry" (niiiice I hear you all cry!!) new year meal. There her mother tries to fix her up with a bloke (this happens every year!), this time its a man by the name of Mark Darcy (aka Colin Firth) who just happens to be a high class barrister.
However lets just say, he isnt the most interesting of guys! (besides that jumper would put anyone off!! [you'll have to see the film for that bit!])

So, Bridget gives up on him! Then her boss, Daniel Cleaver (aka Hugh Grant) makes a move. Everythings going fine, until he has to rush off to a "meeting" - basically lets just say its a funny old meeting he has!

In the end Bridget ends up....well you didnt really think I was going to tell you did you?!
Oh no, Im about to do a Chris Tarrant on you all!! <find out after the break!>

So the film gets a big thumbs up from me!

I think Renee Zellweger's attempt at the English accent really worked, fair play to her on that account! Although there were a few occasions where instead of being purely English, she did sound a little bit more posh than anything. But she still pulled off the role really well!

Also i'd like to mention the fact that, seen as ive seen the film *after* the things in the paper about Renee Zellweger and her new obsession with her body/weight. I personally think she looks much better in the film than she does now without the "chubbyness" about her.

I can't comment on what the film is like in respect to the book. Reason being, I havnt read the book! Although I think I may do now!

And as with all other films, the music is a key factor to the film.
"Its Raining Men" really fits in well with the scene it is played with in the film [again you'll have to go and see it yourself for that one!]

Infact I think the only annoying thing about this film is that you have to be prepeared to have "Its Raining Men" in your head for the rest of the day!
But its WELL worth putting up with to see this film!

Definately worth watching!
