In BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY--based on Helen Fielding's novel--Bridget Jones is a pretty and neurotic thirty-something 'singleton' (in her vernacular) who vows to take control of her...
more...life after being humiliated by handsome, stand-offish barrister Mark Darcy at her parents' New Year's party. Determined to lose weight, and cut back on vices like wine, cigarettes, and workaholic-alcoholic-misogynistic men, Bridget begins a diary to chart her progress. Unfortunately, the P.R. executive hits a snag when her boss, gorgeous cad Daniel, instigates a sexy e-mail flirtation. Despite her tendency to bungle book launch parties, and any situation involving the ever present, ever-disapproving Mark Darcy, Bridget's winning combination of charm, vulnerability, and wit intrigues not only the seductively dangerous Daniel, but also the arrogant barrister.

I've seen both films and read both books and I can say they'll all worth watching/reading. The second film & 1st book are slightly a bit of a let down, but still fun to read/watch over all.

Bridget Jones's Diary 1:

This film starts off with a 30 something Bridget going to her parents house (which is set near where I live) and her talking about her life in a narrated form. Bridget played by the wonderful Renee Zellweger is set up again by her mother, but this year it happends to be the hot Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) wearing a terrible jumper his mother gave him. He says something horrible like "Epesially not someone who drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney & dresses like her mother" which is a classic line.

When this film was made into a movie, there was a lot of stick that they used an American to play Bridget, but it totally works. Renee has chemistry with both Mark Darcy & her boss Daniel Cleaver, and with a very good cast it's a perfect film to watch with the girls.

I didn't enjoy the first book, mainly because I saw the film first, I think that always recks your opinion of the book. Sharon McGuire has made this film fantastic, I can watch it over and over without getting bored.

Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge Of Reason

Unlike the first film I was really disapointed with the second film. I has read the book and loved it, it's so much better than the first book but they took too much out of the film.

I also think Renee Zellwegers accent gets worse in this second film, it actually sounds fake, plus there is too many soppy moments in the film that are not in the book, the scene at the start is terrible.

There's not much I can say about this film, it's fun to watch but the acting ability is not up to it.

In the book Bridget never goes to Thailand, the director of the film thought that there wasn't enough Hugh Grant so wrote another bit in, it didn't work, the scene is sort of funny but scenes like the dustpin scene in the book have been taken out.

I would only recommend getting these two dvds together if you gte it quite cheap, the second one sorta ruins the story in my opinion, however if you get the soundtrack & the book for the second one they're totally worth listening/reading.

Hope this helped.

Kirsty.
