Brendan Shine - At Home In Ireland (DVD)

...The Shining is a 1980 horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick which is based a Stephen King novel of the same name. It stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd. Jack Torrence (Nicholson) is a writer who accepts the job as a caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, which always gets snowed in during the winter, and so becomes completely isolated. He is warned that the last caretaker got cabin fever and killed his family and himself, but Jack just wants some peace and quiet in order to write. So he takes his wife Wendy (Duvall) and his son Danny (Lloyd) up to the hotel on the closing day, where they meet the elderly cook, Dick Halloran (Scatman Crothers). He surprises Danny by talking with him telepathically and asking him if he wants an ice cream. When alone, he explains that he and his grandmother shared this incredible gift... Read review

...of her son. Will any of them get out alive? I would imagine/hope that there are few people who haven't heard of The Shining. Based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by Stanley Kubrick, it was made back in 1980, and yet for me and many others, remains a film that has stood the test of time. It is my all-time favourite film and has been for some time - it is one of the few films that I can watch over and over again, and yet I never get bored of, despite knowing precisely how it is going to end. For me, it has everything that I want in a film - great acting and visuals, a creepy atmosphere with a bit of supernatural thrown in, a bit of gore, beautiful visuals and wonderfully appropriate music. I should note here that I have never read the book, so cannot comment on how well it translated onto the screen, although I have read... Read review

...Bryan Adams has been a very popular draw in Ireland for years and it was no surprise to me when it was announced he would play Slane Castle,in Co.Meath,Ireland.Slane is the biggest outdoor event in Ireland,a natural amphitheatre set on a beautiful estate with Slane Castle to one side. This was the Irish leg of Adams world tour,and in true Irish style,the thousands of fans were once again in form for a great nights entertainment by one of the worlds best rock vocalists. The camera work was superb,capturing the atmosphere which had reached fever pitch by the time the band took to the stage. Guitarist Keith Scott,Drummer Mickey Carey and the man himself arrived onstage complete with life size balloons that they kicked into the crowd and then the opening riff to "Back To You" began.The crowds immediately...
