in the face of overwhelming odds. "Bravo Two Zero" by patrol commander 'Andy McNab' became an international bestseller as did the book by 'Chris Ryan' ("The One That Got Away"). Both men became millionaires. Three members of the patrol were killed. One veteran sergeant Vince Phillips was blamed in both books for a succession of mistakes. As Michael Asher reveals the stories in "Bravo Two Zero" and "The One That Got Away" grew considerably in the telling. Their heroic tales of taking out tanks with their rocket launchers mowing down hundreds of Iraqi soldiers the silent stabbing of the occasional sentry were never mentioned at their post-war debriefings...In an investigation literally in the footsteps of the patrol Michael Asher tells the true story.

In January 1991 eight members of the SAS regiment embarked upon a top secret mission that ... more
was to infiltrate them deep behind enemy lines. Under the command of Sergeant Andy McNab they were to sever the underground communication link between Baghdad and north-west Iraq and to seek and destroy mobile Scud launchers. Their call sign: "Bravo Two Zero". Each man laden with 15 stone of equipment they patrolled 20km across flat desert to reach their objective. Within days their location was compromised. After a fierce firefight they were forced to escape and evade on foot to the Syrian border. In the desperate days that followed though stricken by hypothermia and other injuries the patrol 'went ballistic'. Four men were captured. Three died. Only one escaped. For the survivors however the worst ordeals were to come. Delivered to Baghdad they were tortured with a savagery for which not even their intensive SAS training had prepared them. "Bravo Two Zero" is a breathtaking account of Special Forces soldiering a chronicle of superhuman courage endurance and dark humour in the face of overwhelming odds.Believed to be the most highly decorated patrol since the Boer War "Bravo Two Zero" is already part of SAS legend.

It is a true story set in the early days of the Gulf War (Iraq 1991) and retells the story of an 8 man SAS squad behind enemy lines; their mission was to destroy Iraqi scud missiles launchers and also to cut communication lines. Very quickly their position becomes compromised and they are set back further by equipment failure and bad weather. Deciding to abort their mission they have to fight numerous running battles with a much larger Iraqi army before they can reach the border to safety. Eventually some of the squad are captured and have to endure interrogation and torture from Iraq's secret police. Bravo Two Zero is an excellent story of an elite squadron trying to escape from behind enemy lines with things getting worse as each minute passes.
My Thoughts: I purchased this soon after it was shown on TV as I was completely hooked on it; the action, the story just everything about it! As some of you may know this DVD is based on a true story and I had to keep asking myself did this really happen! These guys go through hell and the story is retold so well that your heart will be racing in places. Since watching this I have read the Bravo two Zero book by Andy McNabb and believe that this movie is a fairly good adaptation so if you haven't seen this yet and enjoy war movies/SAS action then go get it now!
The DVD: I paid full price of around £12.99 when this was first released and thought that it was good value for money even at this 'high price'. The video quality on the DVD is excellent and clear even during the night scenes, which there are plenty of. The audio sadly is only stereo but still provides a good experience of being involved in the action so is not a major stumbling point for the DVD. Along with the movie the DVD contains special features in the form of a 22 minute interview with Andy McNabb which is worth seeing. Also included is a behind the scenes training session of Sean Bean learning how to use the weapons and being taught engagement tactics i.e. how to avoid pooing your pants when you see the enemy! Both of these special features are excellent additions to the DVD.
The DVD comes packaged in a standard case and also includes a small booklet which tells you a bit about Andy McNabb, pictures of the SAS Squad (actors) and a short story about the SAS for those who wish to find out more about the most elite Special Forces team in the world.

...more about the event with Bravo Two Zero. The DVD portrays the real life truth about war, and what the SAS are sacrafising for our welfare, and the welfare of others.
However, one downside is the sound. Although the production is well thought-out, and very good, the sound can be somewhat unclear, especially when the actors are talking at parts. Having said that, the action scenes manage to portray a very good feeling of action, with the combination ...

Based on Andy McNab's memoir, BRAVO TWO ZERO is the story of the eight man SAS team who, during the Gulf War, were dropped behind enemy lines with 210 packs strapped to their backs and orders to destroy Saddam's scud alley. Unfortunately, within 24 hours, the team's radios were dead and they found themselves pursued by the Iraqui Army. Sergeant McNab, who commanded the top-secret mission, was one of the five who made it back from behind Iraqui lines, and his story is one of the most heartbreaking and thrilling to come out of the Gulf War.
