Braveheart……Best Film ever Made!!
I have to say that in my eyes this is the greatest film ever made. It’s both a mans film and a womans film. It has both action and romance, the beautiful scenery of Scotland and the haunting music of James Horner..
It starts with the young William Wallace witnessing his village being wiped out and the young girl giving him the thistle at the graveside.
I know most of you will have seen this film so I will just highlight why I love it so much. I reckon it is Mel Gibsons best film and he really suited the part of William Wallace, I don’t think anyone else could have played that role better. So I will tell you my three favourite scenes from the film.
The bit after his girlfriend was killed, were he rides slowly into the village. The close up of the horse, the slow action and detail given to the horses stride. The fact that you were waiting for something to happen but you were made to slowly wait on it happening. Then when it did happen the action was just brilliant. You almost felt like joining in!
The next scene has to be were the English forces are facing the Scottish on the top off the hill, the English outnumber them. A few discerning voices are heard in the midst of the Scottish when all of a sudden in he rides. The horse dressed for battle and Mel with his face painted Blue & White for Scotland. The speech he gives them about do they want to remember this day for the rest of their lives, I would have followed him myself. The battle scene that followed was brilliantly done as well.
The last scene I liked was the end scene, were he was being executed. He was given the choice of a quick death if he recognised the King, but Mel was never going to do that. The torture scenes were quite bad, I almost felt the last one myself just watching. He of course sees his girls ghost darting in and out of the crowd, and as he looks at her, just before he dies he raises his voice to shout in a loud cry….”Freedom”…Brilliant!
It was a fantastic film about the Legend that was William Wallace, I have watched the film about seven times and could easily watch it again.
It is the haunting theme music, set off by the fantastic scenery and off course Mel Gibson, who was just brilliant as William Wallace. I felt the hair on my neck rise a few times throughout the film, which only happens when I am really caught up by the atmosphere created by something really special…Braveheart is just..Something special…
I dedicate this opinion to all the Scottish members out there, without whose great grandparents this epic would not have been made, not of course forgetting the help you had from your friends in Ireland…
Thanks for the read and take care, your friend online…….
