This is THE greatest vampire film of all time, after Nosferatu and Blade, for one good reason. All vampire fils fall into three types: slayfests, like Blade and the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer film, vampire sexfests (being em I ain't seen any of them) and very rare explorations of the vampire legend. BS Dracula is one of the latter films. BS Dracula gives a whole new light, or darkness. This film gives vampirism a new rich and deep style, a true gothic masterpiece.
As we know, it concerns the undead Count Dracula (Gary Oldman), who comes to England to begin his siring of Londons population from his abse at Fairfax Abbey, hired for him by the young laywer Jonathon Harker (Keano Reeves). Whilst at Castle Dracula, Harker is exposed to some wierd stuff- gravity defyign liquids, a non- reflective Dracula, Draculs female vampire cohorts- but doesn't peg on as to Draculas true nature. When Dracula visits London, he becomes involved with Harkers girlfriend Meena, and with Harker locked away in Castle Dracula, Dracula begins his seduction of her, culminating in his near- siring of her. Whilst in London, Dracula also attacks a friend of Meenas, and this paves teh way for the introductionj of the blood doctor Abraham Van Hesling, sho realises Draculas true nature and sets about destroying him, ending in Castle Dracula.
This film is dark, rich and with a style so in touch with its script and the history of Vlad the Impaler. The sets, especially in Castle Dracula, are superb, and add so much to the atmosphere throughout. The entire film is dark and gloomy (not to say it isn't good) and makes us feel at once that Dracula is calling all the shots. To use a bad pun, this film is bloody good.
