Advantages: Fun entry in the East Side Kids series of juvenile delinquent hijinks films Disadvantages: Quaint and corny - but that's a good part of its charm
...Dead End Kids and the Bowery Boys - in the Dead End Kids incarnation, they were the boys featured in the James Cagney classic 'Angels with Dirty Faces'), a group of juvenile delinquents who hang out in the streets of old New York City. The boys with their brash 1940s Noo Yawk attitudes and mischief-making are both endearing and smile-raising even now, and you really find yourself warming to these cute characters - maybe they're potential future gangster ... ...their warm and fuzzy side and a strong sense of honour, and you feel there is scope for eventual redemption for the Kids (but hopefully not so much so that they lose their charm and infectious zest along the way!)
(Though, having said 'kids' - in common with most early films about teenagers, Leo Gorcey was 24 when this film was made, and Sammy Morrison nearly 30!)
