The first series: This consists of a 2 disc set, which contains 5 episodes, Which probably doesn't sound a great deal, but when each episode is an hour long, But it doesn't seem that long when you are totally caught up in the action.
It starts on a very happy note, its Len and Linda's wedding day, when Arthur who is the village doctor, decides to play mind games with his son.
Tom (Arthur's son) arrives to be best man at the wedding, but not all goes according to plan, there are a series of incidents that really makes you think will the wedding ever go ahead,
With this being set in the 1950's it really makes you think this is how people really lived in such a tight kit community.
Once Arthur had made his plan the whole village seemed to be in on it.
There are many that I can explain this series to you, but without spoiling the plot, it really is difficult,
Basically, it's the 1950's and times they are a changing, and with the glow of post war peace, Arthur decides to create an aura of optimism, as the birth of the NHS, bringing in so many new changes to the Health System, his Lancashire Cottage Hospital could be under threat. He has to make a drastic decision.
He has lived in the village of Ormston (this is where the series is set)., he is very keen to see his son return to the village, so that he can hand over the running of the hospital to him, But will Tom fall for his father's wicked plan…….?
You see, because Tom and his father don't really see eye to eye and the last thing that he wants is to follow in his footsteps.
So you see from the very start, Arthur has a very difficult job of convincing him otherwise.
The episodes tell a full story in each, so that you don't have the let down of having to wait until the next series is released to find out what happens…..
Like I said there are 5 episodes, each and exciting as the last….. The best part for me is Jean and Eddie…. The lovelorn couple….Jean is madly in love with Eddie which is very clear right from the start, but will they ever get together…..? Especially as Tom's daughter has caught Eddie's eye, It really is so very moving…as you get so caught up in every moment. Without giving the plot away I will say no more, apart from
You really must watch this…. As a series as good as this will probably never been done again.
