Borat is a comic film, released in 2006 that won American Film Institute Official Selection Top 10 Films of the year.
The Film was directed by Larry Charles. Borat was played by Sacha Baron Cohen. He is a British comedian and the winner of Golden Globe-best actor for his play in the film.
The story is about Kazakhstan's fourth most famous celebrity Borat, who travels to the USA to make a documentary for Kazakhstan TV to learn American culture. In the film you can see his funny even hilarious experiences when he arrives the US.
The film starts in the town of Kuzcek, Kazakhstan with Borat's statement 'I like you. I like sex'. Following the statement you get a big picture of his life.
He has a jealous neighbour, who cannot afford a clock radio like he has. His sister is the number four prostitute in all Kazakhstan. His '43 year old' mother is the oldest woman in all Kuzcek. He also has a 'boring' wife.
He has a 'VCR recorder' and a 'play cassettes' in a room where he lives. His hobbies include 'ping-pong, sunbathe, disc dance' and travelling to the capital city on weekends to watch women.
He reports on a TV programme called 'Please, you see'. He said, 'although Kazakhstan is glorious country it still have problem, Economic, social and Jew' and why he is sent to 'US and A' to learn lessons for Kazakhstan.
I laughed a lot whilst I watched this part of the film, but later when I saw his experiences in the States I could not see the funny side and I thought it was ridiculous to make a film like this.
After arriving the USA Borat meets a series of so called culture shocks. In the eyes of American people he behaves strangely and stupidly. He even has no idea of how to use the lift and the toilet in the hotel and he's naive enough to think he can marry a TV star in Kazakhstan style.
At the end of the film you can see people waiting in a long queue in front of Borat's house wanting to have a look at the computer and the American woman he has brought back from his American trip.
After watching it I felt a little upset. I think the created character from Kazakhstan is a kind of insult to the country, not to mention the people. The only thing that made me satisfied is the performance of the actor, Sacha Baron Cohen.
PS Might be posted by myself on other websites under same username or Blossom.
Summary: I wish the film didn't refer to a particular country.

I do think it's offensive to Kazakhstan; it would have been easy to invent a country for the purpose rather than poke (generally mis-conceived) fun at a real one. However, I'm all for people having the right to be offensive if that's what they want to do. I'd criticise the film more for the quality of its humour. Cohen is occasionally funny, but sometimes cringworthily unfunny.

I think you make some good points. Personally I thought this was a great film, so tongue in cheek and amongst the stupidity it did highlight some issues that fully deserve ridicule. Another v nice review.

l heard a bit about this film when it came out, but it neither sounded funny nor clever..... your review hasn't changed my mind, either ... would you think it so funny were it a different civilised country being lampooned?
