Borat Sagdiyev is a fictional character portrayed by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. (also did AliG) Borat! is set out like a documentary following Borat around his journey in America - The movie is classified as a Mockumentary - As Borat basically makes a mockery of America in this documentary.
Borat is a sequel from Channel 4 and was growing in popularity, thus the film, and through the success of Borat the movie, a follow up is already in plan with 20th Century Fox. Borat Sagdiyev is said to have been born on July 30, 1972 in the fictional village of Kuzcek, Kazakhstan, to Asimbala Sagdiyev and Boltok the Rapist (who is also stated to be his maternal grandfather). He has a 13-year-old son named Hooeylewis and 12-year-old twin boys, named Biram and Bilak, as well as 17 grandchildren. He has an older sister, Natalya (who he says is the number four prostitute in Kazakhstan) and a younger brother, Bilo who is mentally retarded. It is also revealed that he has two wives as well as a mistress, a girlfriend, and a prostitute with whom he has had affairs on several occasions.
One of the 'funniest moments' in the movie is where he introduces his family and introduces Natalya - first snogging her then saying this is my sister. I put funniest moments in inverted commas because I personally did not find most of the movie funny; I must admit there were times where I did laugh even though I really tried not to - eg. During the scenes he is chasing Pamela Anderson, and at the end when he is arrested he says I dont Love you any more, NOT! - (NOT! was a comedy technique he learnt in America)
Eventually in the movie Borat married the Luenell (the prostitute)
Borats profession: Borat is a journalist and presenter on Kazakh television.
Borat is not Sacha Baron Cohen's first movie, he was Ali G in 'Ali G Indahouse' which was a successful movie.
Due to the heavy levels of political mockery in this Mockumentary Borat has received criticisms from Kazekhstan for his negative potrayel of the country. However research shows Kazekhstan has gained from the movie in terms of Tourism. Borat often makes fun of Jews, he has a song 'In My country there is problem'. However due to the fact that Sacha Baren Cohen is of the Jewish faith he has not received criticism on that note. Interestingly the movie was shot in Romania not Kazekhstan!
In the movie another very amusing scene was when Borat was putting his life in danger when he started making fun of America in front of Americans: "We support your war of terror", "May George Bush drink the blood of every single man, woman, and child of Iraq". "May you destroy their country so that for the next thousand years, not even a single lizard will survive in their desert!" The American crowd got infuriated when he sang the (fictional) Kazakhstan national anthem to an off-key version of the US national anthem. The best thing about this is its real, he actually did this; this is what makes this Mockumentary so great to watch. (- He also supports Stalin and anti-femenism!)
However there was a particular scene in the movie that ruined it. In a hotel Borat and his 'friend' are naked and wrestling on a bed then run through a hall naked. - This was a pretty disturbing scene especially watching this in a cinema (if you were with your parents!)*(i wasnt luckily) However the movie was R rated because of this.
Overall Borat the movie will make you laugh, you will enjoy following Borat through his journeys and may feel sorry for him at times where he's suffering. Borat is a unique film and there are no other movies I can compare this with (Mr beans holiday comes a little close - in the way it is filmed).
Summary: Film is great, unique and original, just be careful who you watch it with

Don't know if I want to watch this. I heard other people enjoyed it because he pushes the boundaries of bad taste into something laughable, but things like that make me squeamish and hide behind the cushions, cos I know he will make someone mad enough to belt him one. Great review though! Jooleybooley x

Advantages: Quite amusing in parts, an interesting concept, a short and somewhat snappy movie Disadvantages: Will offend some, a bit too over the top & can make for uncomfortable viewing in parts
