If you like Ali G then you will like Borat. Even if you didn't like Ali G you will still like Borat. Ali G gradually became less and less popular and wasn't funny any more. Dont worry, when it comes to Borat this definately will not be a problem. Ali G is now this fantastic new character named Borat who is from Kazakhstan. He is going on travels visiting the US to learn about the culture and give some of his own back and the film follows him around.

The main point of this film is not only to be the best new comedy now around but also is to show people the ignorance of the richest in the world within the most powerful country in the world. Borat always seems to succeed at this every time he tries.

One of the first things that Borat does is let a chicken escape from his bag on the train. He then goes on to cause a near riot in his purposeful mis-interpretation of the US National anthem. I am sure that you won't meet many people that have the guts to do all of this.

Another side splitting time is at the same rodeo event. This time Borat dares to sing the Kazakh national anthem. This national anthem is Borats made-up shocking lyrics that is sang along to the tune of The Star-Spangled Banner. He first rouses the audience with cries of 'We support your War OF Terror!' This doesn't really impress the crowd. He follows this with more and more of his shocking but funny phrases. After this you can hear the crowd's very disapproval thoughts with them shouting and complaining at him. When Borat finally sings his stupid anthem you will see one of the strongest and most hilarious scenes in the whole of this film. And if that isn't quite good enough for you to finish this amazing scene off everything ends on a perfect, slapstick note that couldn't possibley not have been a scripted incident! After all of this he then had to be escorted out under heavy police escort.

If that isn't quite funny enough for you then my next favourite scene definately will make you laugh. In this scene it shows how it is difficult to translate the humour from one culture to another. This is done by Borat tring to understand the 'Not Joke'. He want to understand exactly what it is that makes Americans . He does this with the help of a humour coach. This has very funny results. In a Virginia suburb, he continually refers to a woman overseeing her yard sale as a gypsy and when he pulls out a Barbie doll from a box, he asks her directly who the woman was who had shrunk so small.

Borat is Jewish and so he has every right to make very funny Jewish jokes and he definately does this with glee. One example of this is when he casually asks a gun store salesman advice on getting the best weapon to shoot a Jew. Without a single little bit of hesitation the salesman offers up a huge, gold-plated pistol. However later he does refuse to sell him the gun. The character of Borat terrified of Jews, and the night scene at the bed-and-breakfast run by a sweet, elderly Jewish couple is another silly and very comic part that left many people laughing for hours.

However, as surprising as it may be there are some tame scenes. Like at a Pentecostal meeting in progress, where Borat gets the religious 'cure' treatment from the crowd. More patently cringe-inducing moments present themselves, examples of these are at the formal dinner party and in the antique store scene. The very friendly and nice bed-and-breakfast couple are unaware of how anti-Jewish Borat is, but Borat's odd behaviour that shows his fear of them will definately make you laugh.

I really admire the take-no-prisoners approach that Borat has when pursuing his comic ends to the extreme. The extended scene of two completely naked men grappling with and chasing each other on the hotel premises definately shows the guts he has. The penultimate scene which involves Pamela Anderson during her autograph-signing session. This is one very funny moment and i am very sure that Borat must have gone home a number of bruises and scratches from this incident. However i am sure he finds it all worth it.

After about a third of the film has gone by you will notice that there is a sub-plot, which runs along nicely in the background of the film right up until the final few scenes. Whilst Borat is sat there flicking through an old Baywatch annual he comes across an image of Pamela Anderson in a red bathing suit and immediatley falls for her. With this on his mind he decides he wants to travel West to California where he can make 'sexy time' with Pamela and force her to marry him. The journey itself and the people he comes across on the way are very amusing, much more so than the eventual outcome.

There are a number of other parts to the film that i have not yet mentioned, but if i was to sit here listing them all then i would be here for years. I am sure that everyone has heard and will know a lot of the jokes involved in this fim and i have picked out my favourites.

i think that it is only fair if you are warned that if you are easily offended and do not like crude jokes then it is not a film for you. The film breaks all taboos from xenophobia, homophobia, anti gypsy and anti Semitism. It is very full of over the top humour.

i think that this is a must see film. The storyline is brilliant and the acting is excellent by Sacha Baron Cohen to bring out the very amusing reactions of people who have no idea that it is all a joke. If you have not yet see this film then you are missing out big time and i really do recommend it to buy. i can assure you that it will be well worth your money. this film definately desevers th 10/10 that i am going to give it. this is one top film! you will never get bored of it and you can watch it over and over again for the rest of your life.

Review of Borat - Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan (DVD) by happysh2009

Advantages: Sacha Baron Cohen plays very well
Disadvantages: too hilarious

Borat is a comic film, released in 2006 that won American Film Institute Official Selection Top 10 Films of the year. The Film was directed by Larry Charles. Borat was played by Sacha Baron Cohen. He is a British comedian and the winner of Golden Globe-best actor for his play in the film. The story is about Kazakhstan's fourth most famous celebrity Borat, who travels to the USA to make a documentary for Kazakhstan TV to learn American culture. In ...
...After arriving the USA Borat meets a series of so called culture shocks. In the eyes of American people he behaves strangely and stupidly. He even has no idea of how to use the lift and the toilet in the hotel and he's naive enough to think he can marry a TV star in Kazakhstan style. At the end of the film you can see people waiting in a long queue in front of Borat's house wanting to have a look at the computer and the American woman he has brought ... Read review

...and has you in stitches throughout the films 84 minute duration. The films true title is 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan', this is too long a name to be quoting on a regular basis though so I shall stick to referring to it simply as 'Borat'. Borat Sagdiyev is a leading journalist in Kazakhstan, he is the sixth most famous man in the country as he tells us. He's a reporter for a popular TV show in Kazakhstan and is sent to America by the channel in order to compile a documentary about American society and its culture. Whilst in New York City he takes a course in an attempt to understand American humour. He wants to know about everything American for this documentary and makes his best efforts to be as excellent in his approach as possible. Whilst watching TV in his hotel room he stumbles... While in New York he sees Pamela Anderson on TV in her Baywatch role and falls instantly in love and tricks Azamat to agree to travel across America to California to discover the real America. From that point the film takes on a comedy road trip style with lots of stop offs along the way for Borat to interview unsuspecting middle America. In my opinion this film fails to transfer the qualities of the small screen sketches featuring Borat into a feature film package. On the plus side the film does have a wider range of comedy genres to it, there are the face to face interviews that you... Read review

DVD Description

Sacha Baron Cohen brings his Borat character to the big screen with this feature length adaptation of his American exploits. Fans of DA ALI G SHOW will already be familiar with the devilishly simple Borat formula, in which the heavily moustachioed TV host from Kazakhstan dupes a number of unwitting citizens into revealing their deepest prejudices, and this movie takes that premise, stirs in a little narrative structure, and serves a side-splitting mirth-fest. The action begins with Borat travelling to America alongside his producer Azamat Bagatov (Ken Davitian). After a hotel room viewing of BAYWATCH, Borat decides he must travel to California to woo Pamela Anderson, so he and the long-suffering Azamat take a cross-country road trip in an ice cream van, encountering some funny, disturbing, and deeply strange individuals along the way. SEINFELD producer Larry Charles lends his directing talents to BORAT, and he gets the balance between the loosely threaded plot and Borat’s encounters with real Americans exactly right. At times the movie threatens to topple over into glorious anarchy, with each situation escalating to ridiculously funny extremes, but Charles knows exactly when to put the brakes on and progress to Borat’s next encounter--although the police are called at the tail-end of one memorable sequence. Keen-eyed viewers will notice some repetition from the TV show, with Borat once again going to a rodeo and again taking etiquette lessons, but it’s almost as if Cohen treats each of these set-pieces as a comedic ‘bit’ he is working on, gradually adding further delirium every time he goes back for another shot. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell who, if any, of BORAT’s participants are actors, but it matters little when the material is this gut-wrenchingly funny, and it’s testament to Cohen’s talents that he’s managed to take a marginal supporting character from his TV show and turned him into a genuine cultural phenomenon.
