This is an out-standing DVD special edition of the Evil Dead 1 film made in 1981, directed by Sam Raimi (Spiderman 1&2/Grudge) and performed by Bruce Campbell (Numerous cameo-roles in films). None of the other actors in this film have gone on to glory than Raimi and Campbell. Raimi is a now established film director, where as Campbell biography sums up his career, "Confessions of a B Movie Actor".
Evil Dead is a great film, which has gone on to be legendery in the horror film industry. This film will live on forever in all horror film fans minds and always has cameo roles now in modern horrors, i.e Posters on the wall etc.
The Evil Dead went on to greats, as a second Evil Dead was filmed aswell as a 3rd, but as always, its the first Evil Dead will be remembered the most. Costing a mere $350,000 (estimated), the special effects in this film are like none other before and the camera workmanship is great. Filmed by students in USA, its a great film that will live on and inspire all students who aim to be directors/actors as a career. It also shows that you dont always need a massive budget for a GREAT movie!
Evil Dead 1 is a about five young students visit a old cabin in the woods and accidently summon the dead back to life. This is not just a horror film, but a great comedy in a strange way. This film does not only make you jump, but makes you laugh aswell.
This version of the DVD comes in a very original "Book of the Dead" case, in its prime of a slimy plasticy feel to it is a great feature. Inside the DVD, you find a few thick, quality paper, with notes and cast details etc written down, along with numerous websites. There is also a booklet with information about Evil Dead about the history of the film, and the numerous pre-releases of DVD's before this one. Also included in this set is the second disc, which is non-related to the Evil Dead, but in fact is a film starring Bruce Campbell called "Running Time". A film which is 66mins filmed in continuous shot to keep the tenseness of the film. Its a great film and was a welcome addition to the Evil Dead boxset as this film is not available on DVD. The special features on this DVD include:
Audio Commentary 1: With Sam Raimi and Robert Tappert Audio commentary 2: With Bruce Cambell Theatrical trailer TV spots 'Fanalysis': a documentary by Bruce Campbell (26 mins) 'Discovering The Evil Dead' featurette (13 mins) Outtakes and deleted scenes (18 mins) Photo and stills gallery Biographies Running Time (2nd Disc)
'Fanalysis' and 'Discovering The Evil Dead' are by far the best special editions on this DVD and are well worth watching, with interesting facts un-known before are revealed.
For a pricey £14.99, this is a must have DVD for the hardcore Evil Dead fans, being a limited edition you have got to buy this soon! With the recent approval of Evil Dead 2 being released in "Necronomicon" bookcase, they could also be releasing Evil Dead 3 aswell. You have got to admit, a series of 3 interesting, eye-catching DVD covers has got to be owned by all!
