Synopsis
Bolt is an action hero, given super powers as a youngster, he now helps his companion Penny to find her father; you was kidnapped by The Green Eyed Man. Oh yes, Bolt is a dog and the star of a top TV show, the only problem is Bolt thinks the TV show is reality, having never been off the studio set. So when Bolt accidentally gets packaged into a box and posted across the country, just after filming a two part cliff hanger in which Penny gets captured, Bolt believes he’s the only one who can save her.
With the help of three pigeons, Bolt questions an alley cat (who he believes works for the Green Eyed Man) called Mittens. He forces her to help him find his way back to Hollywood to save Penny. Along the way they meet Rhino, a hamster who’s one of Bolt’s biggest fans, and together the unlikely trio set off to Hollywood.

My Thoughts
I quite enjoyed this film, it was actually the best film I’ve seen in quite a while, which really says a lot about the film industry these days!
If you hadn’t guessed it’s a computer animated film, and the animation is very good indeed. The characters are fairly realistic looking, although they’ve gone for the huge heads on small bodies to make the characters look cuter rather than totally life like.
The storyline is also good for a children’s film. Obviously it’s not too in depth, so it holds their attention quite well, but it’s not so fluffy that adults can’t enjoy it too. There were a few funny moments, but none that really made me or the kids laugh out loud, normally the kids find something to laugh hysterically at, but not this time.
I can now say that I’ve watched a John Travolta film as well! I must admit I never recognized either of the main voices during the film, although once I realized who they were it was totally obvious, particularly Miley Cyrus, I can’t believe I didn’t recognize her voice considering I hear it ever day.
Although half way through the film when they did the montage I remember thinking that the song to accompany it was very countrified, and once I knew Miley was in the film, it became clear why.
I’d recommend this to anyone with young children. It’s a nice film with a nice story.
DVD Extras
There are a couple of deleted scenes on the DVD. The Dog Fight and The River Scene, they are shown in a mixture of storyboard scenes and the more developed computer generated images. When you see them it’s not surprising they were cut, because they didn’t really add anything to the film.
There’s also a couple of behind the scenes clips, we only watched the one which showed the actors doing the voice overs, which could be rated at mildly interesting at best.
There’s also a behind the scenes at the recording of "I Thought I Lost You", the song sung by Miley Cyrus and John Travolta, then they show the full song and video.
Finally there are a few ‘Coming Soon’ movie clips, which mainly seemed to be old films revamped into HD.
