movie about friendship, perseverance, and the power of believing in oneself. Everyone knows that superheroes on television are not real, but TV star super dog Bolt (John Travolta) is a canine star who was carefully raised to believe that he really possesses superpowers. In true loyal canine style, Bolt is completely devoted to his human co-star Penny (Miley Cyrus). When Penny is captured by the evil Dr. Calico (Malcolm McDowell) in their latest television episode and Bolt gets accidentally let loose in the real world, he sets off on a journey to save her. Bolt is confounded when his super powers are suddenly ineffective, but inspiration strikes and Bolt quickly discovers the mysterious, power-stealing effects of Styrofoam packing peanuts. The trio traverses the United States from waffle house to waffle house on a hysterical quest to find Penny and prove that the relationship between Penny and Bolt is real. In the end, Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino learn that everyone is special in their own way and they discover the true power of believing in oneself and one's friends. One day Penny is ?kidnapped? by the Green Eyed Man and Bolt manages to escape the film set while panicking to save Penny. He has never been off set before and finds the real world a bit of a shock, especially as all of his ?super-powers? don?t seem to work outside. His super bark, super strength and speed and especially his heat ray vision, all seem useless. Never having had to go hungry or hurt himself before, he enlists the help of Mittens, a street wise cat to help him get back to Penny and save her. Along the journey they meet a variety of other characters on the quest to get home and save the day, while having to come to terms with being happy with who you really are.
Characters --------------
Bolt is voiced by John Travolta; I had forgotten this the second the film started as I didn?t make the association once bolt was on screen. I think this is probably a very good thing. Being a very famous actor, it would have been a shame to think about Grease through the whole film.
Bolt is brave and has a big heart, John Travolta played this very well, and brought a lot of emotion to the little dog, especially when he is scared for Penny.
Penny is voiced by Miley Cyrus; I was very happy with her performance as Penny, to be quite honest, I very much dislike her voice usually, I can just about deal with her singing, but her voice is very grating. I was pleasantly surprised that she managed to tone her voice down to the softly spoken caring nature it required to play Penny and didn?t retract anything from the character or the film.
Mittens is voiced by Susie Essman; someone I know nothing about. Mittens is a cat with a past and acts tough to cover up for being vulnerable, a very likable character and the voice acting suits it very well.
Rhino (a huge Bolt fan and also a pudgy little hamster) is voiced by Mark Walton; another unknown by me. Rhino is hyper and extremely keen to be part of Bolts adventure and with the use of his hamster ball, is able to tag along for the journey. He is the funniest character in the film, along with the pigeons, and has a lot of silly lines that made me giggle out loud.
Animation / 3D -------------------
I saw this film in a 3D enabled cinema, there were a few moments that made good use of the 3D technology, but it really doesn?t have to be seen in 3D at all. The animation is fantastic as all seem to be becoming at the moment. Disney Studios have done a great job. It?s a very bright film in the usual Disney way, and made it very easy to watch.
Other Elements -------------------
It was heart warming in all the right usual ?Disney? ways, but had a good amount of humour, that both adult and children would get on different levels, as well as adventure for the younger audiences. It also has a couple of slightly scarier moments, earning it a PG rating, while battling evil and a few explosions etc.
I am not ashamed to admit I even shed a tear at one of the sweeter sad moments, but then I am the girl who cried at Free Willy because I was so happy he got free at the end. (N.B I was 10 at the time, but not much has changed, I?m still a big softie!)
With so many aspects in the film, I think it helps to make it more enjoyable. If one part isn?t really your thing, then another will pick up the slack.
Overall / My Opinion --------------------------
I knew I would most likely enjoy this film, as a huge Disney fan, but I REALLY enjoyed it. The story was very sweet and I couldn?t help but smile, and that after all, is what I look for in a film, something that can affect my mood.
I came out happy I had seen it and while I was in the cinema, I was engrossed in the film and was happy to ignore the real world for a few hours.
I would suggest this film to anyone, providing you?re not a Disney hater, for anyone of any age. I have been suggesting it to my friends and am now suggesting it to the Dooyoo world. It good! Watch it!
...its eyes. I merely put Bolt in order to entertain my eight year old niece and surprise, surprise; I ended up being even more absorbed in the movie than her. A friend of mine had watched this film a few weeks back and he was constantly after me to watch it, describing it as one of the best dog movies ever. I would rather give snaps to such a description because Bolt ranks, according to me, alongside those Lassie movies. This is mainly in terms of ... ...Plot:
Ever since his childhood, Bolt has lived and grown up on a movie set, where he plays a superhero dog whose main mission in life is to save and protect the life of his beloved mistress, Penny. Yet, Bolt has been trained to believe that he really has such supernatural powers and even after shootings, he remains fixated upon protecting Penny. Until one day when a series of circumstances lead him to end up on the streets for the first time in ...

Advantages: Great work on the whole Disadvantages: People animation
Good old Disney does it again with this great animation comedy about a canine TV superhero who finds things are a bit different in the real world. I have to admit, I was very dubious about this when I first heard about the basic plot concept, but then I should really throw caution to the wind, as I have been dubious about most recent animations and have enjoyed all of them.
Bolt is a superdog. He is the superstar of TV, saving his person, Penny, and thwarting the evil Dr Calico at every turn. However, having been bred for showbiz, he doesn't have any concept of the fact that he is merely a TV dog, and that all of his super powers are faked and contrived, with him convinced he actually has them.
When he breaks out of his caravan to 'save' Penny after a scene where she gets captured, he soon comes crashing down to earth as he finds ...

Advantages: Rhino, Blu-ray and DVD with Rhino toy, good family watch Disadvantages: Similar to other animated films
***Introduction***
Bolt is the latest movie made by Disney and so I decided to recently purchase this movie and see what all the fuss was about. This version was only a couple of quid more than the normal DVD and I purchased mine from TheHut (which I have reviewed very recently) and this includes the Blu-ray disc with special features, the film on DVD as well which is worth over £10 and a Rhino soft toy! (the excellent and very funny hamster in the movie) So I obviously decided to buy the Blu-ray!
***Plot***
Bolt and his owner Penny are the stars of a massive TV show with Bolt being the main character. To make everything appear more realistic Bolt must not know that this is just a show and not real and so he believes everything around him is real. When Penny is captured by the evil green eyed man he escapes over night to try ...

When I read that the Bond films were being re-released I though here we go again, another money spinner. Having bought all the "Special Editions" a couple of years ago, I was very dubious about spending loads of money to repurchase them.
However, when I read about the difference in quality between the special and ultimate edition my curiosity was peaked. I decided to purchase the first movie, Dr No and watch it to see if there was a marked difference as I had read about.
Well to say the quality is a massive improvement is a little bit of an understatement. The special edition was basically a transfer from the original film to DVD with some special features bolted onto the side. The Ultimate edition has basically gone back to the original film, transferred it to a computer and then each frame was edited, frame by frame, to ...

Wittier by the reel, BOLT is can't-miss family entertainment (Daily Telegraph, 06/05/2009)
[F]risky, funny and inventive enough to engage the attention of grown-ups as well as children [...] What keeps BOLT fresh is an unaffected exuberance, a genuine sense of fun, that is expressed above all through obsessive attention to craft. (New York Times, 06/05/2009)
Tremendously lovable and funny stuff. (The Guardian, 06/05/2009)
Disney's first 3D animation, made under new head John Lasseter, is a likeable, dynamic and seductively characterised family entertainment. (Time Out, 06/05/2009)
DVD Description
In this 2008 computer-animated Disney film, an adorable dog named Bolt (voiced by John Travolta) has been trained to believe that he has superpowers, and that his young owner, Penny (Miley Cyrus), is in perpetual peril, thanks to the schemes of the dastardly Dr. Calico (Malcolm McDowell). However, the loving and protective Bolt and his human companion are really actors in a popular TV show, a production that goes to great lengths to make sure its star pooch remains in the dark about his fictitious life. When Bolt is accidentally transported off of his show's Hollywood lot, he must find his way back home and contend with his not-so-super reality, aided by a scrappy alley cat (Susie Essman) and a very enthusiastic hamster (Mark Walton).
Helmed by animation vets and first-time feature directors Byron Howard and Chris Williams, BOLT benefits from executive producer John Lasseter's sterling Pixar touch, often echoing themes of that beloved company's canon, particularly 1995's groundbreaking TOY STORY. A fun movie that will delight children, BOLT is excellent family fare and easily one of the finest dog-themed films in cinema history.
