In my obssesion to get christmas bought and paid for by the end of the summer, i have crossed paths of a certain builder!!!! I will try to review this LIVE dvd version of Bob the builder, and try to do it justice as even though i feel parents should not be forced to watch some of the dreadful programmes that are made for children, feel i owe some loyalty to Bob, one of my main childsitters bar my mum!!!!!
Bob the builder and characters are clay characters created by Cody Hill. The animation is produced in the uk, but as with so many things is then poached and finished off in the United States for the company Hit Entertainment.
The animation itself draws heavily on the stop motion techniques pioneered by Art Cloakey and inspired by Aardman Animations.
The programme itself is very cleverly thought out with great characters who, always seem to have a message to project to the children in the audience. How the programme is shown is, Bob is the adult figure of the group and with Wendys help,
guides the machine characters in the right direction,also the character of Spud is almost a substitute for a child,always in trouble and needing reprimanding!!
Bob the builder - is a construction contracter,(voiced by Neil Morrisey), is the main character, and whose catchphrase is "reduce,reuse and recycle".
Wendy - is Bobs second in command,and has also on numerous occasions, been hinted as Bob's romantic interest!
Spud - is the scarecrow who belongs to farmer Pickles, is the most child-like of all the characters.He is always in trouble or causing trouble, leaving a trail of distruction behind him. His catchphrase is "Spuds on the job!".
Scoop -is one of the vehicles that are kept in bobs yard. He is a yellow digger and his catchphrase is "no, probs Bob".
Lofty - is a rather timid character, never very sure of himself and tends to follow the others than lead. He is a blue crane and his catchphrase is "uh, yeah, i think so".
Dizzy - is my favourite character, she is the only female vehicle in the yard.She is as her name describes DIZZY!! She bolts around all the time putting everyone else in a spin!!.She is a cement mixer and her catchphrase is "brillliiiaantt"
Muck - is a red dumper/digger, this character is rather non - discriptive!!! His catchphrase is "Muck, to the rescue".
Roley - is another favourite of mine, but this time for another reason. I do a great impression of this character and my children think is great!!!!!He is a green roller and his catchphrase is "rock and roll!!"
Travis - is Mr Pickles's tractor, and seems to be dragged into trouble by Spud quite a lot!!!!
Pilchard the cat - is Bob's cat who seems to hog a lot of the limelight, and has had numerous episodes dedicated just to her character!!!
Scruffty and humpty - are farmer Pickles's dog and prize winning pig!!!!
Mr Bently - is one of the minor characters,he is the building inspector.

Ok before i go into the actual content of the dvd, i would like to say that even though i enjoyed it, my children if coming face to face with a six foot Bob, would shit themselves. So the prospect of them being able to watch it on the telly was a much safer option for me!!!!
The case itself is bright and colourful,and features lots of pictures of the live stage show. In fairness even though it is obviously a stage show the props and the characters are very loyal to the animation, even the vehicles are detailed and spot on!!

Mr Bently has asked Bob to turn some waste ground into a fun place to hold the town's jamboree,which takes place the following day. They'd better get to work, can they fix it? Yes he can!!! And can you help? Yes you can!! By singing and dancing along, by hammering, sawing and telling Spud how to stay out of trouble!!
Enjoy the excitement of Bob,Wendy and their friends singing and dancing their way through a fun-packed, larger than life adventure in front of your very eyes. Included on this film are ten fantastic songs, includind four new tracks and Bob's two number one singles,(which had us all dancing round the front room, like fools!!!), "can we fix it?" and "Mambo no 5!".
The dvd invites you to - Come and join Bob and his team in this musical extravaganza that can now be enjoyed over and over again!!!!
I had a bit of a bargain with this!!! Normally retailing at around £6.99, from Asda or Woolworths, i managed to get a set of ten dvds for £11 off bid up tv.(sky digital chanel 644).
My overall view is that, even though it is a little different it was still extremely enjoyable, but in my opinion the animation is the best!!!!
